They're still a young team and I take it as a good sign that they have had a chance to win basically every game this year except that one against SJ. The next step is to find ways to hold on/steal those needed points, then we can start taking about playoff hopes.
Thing that worries me more than the points is that we're getting outshot almost every game. If it weren't for Doobie really stepping up this year things would be ugly right now.

Very true. But if it wasn't for Kiprusoff, I think most people would agree that Calgary would have been in the basement with the Oilers. Now we have a good goalie and can keep us in games. It's all we can ask for I think.

With 11 points in 10 games I'm fairly happy. Sure we could have had more, could have less. But if we keep that level up we should make playoffs or at least be very close.

Yeah, I would say that Edmonton "stole" a lot of those OT points. They really were outplayed in a lot of games. Dubnyk played stellar in some and there was some timely scoring, but I really don't think the Oilers are playoff bound this year. I hope I'm wrong, but with a D like that and young forwards being inconsistent on the offense, I just don't see it this year.

Definitely not playoff bound. They'll be close but they are like one injury on the blue line from completely collapse.

Maybe... but when an injury to one of those guys means that Peckham or Teubert is getting a call-up I don't know.

Chris VandeVelde recalled today from OKC.

https://mobile.twitter.com/dantencer...4540577792?p=v

"Oilers make VandeVelde recall official. Centers tomorrow: RNH, Gagner, VandeVelde + Smyth. Belanger returns Sunday with Smyth back to wing."

Ryan Smyth at centre? That could be interesting.

I don't know that it's that interesting. He's done it before, at least part-time as a better faceoff option than a lot of what the Oilers have.

I would have expected them to move Hall to centre before Smyth.

The problem there is that they aren't missing centermen in the top six so Hall would have to move down a line to move over. Smyth is a bottom six guy now so he can move over freely.
