I'm just as suprised as everyone else with this. But just because it's a surprise, doesn't make it the wrong move. The Jays wanted a coach with experience..check. Ex-catchers apparently make better managers...check. They got a guy that players love'd to play for (except lilly and hillebrand). AA has a coach that he can trust after getting burned by Farrell. And most importantly, this guy knows how to handle a bullpen.....All in all, I like this hiring.

Interesting, apparently Butterfield wanted to be the manager and felt ready but the Jays' management decided that they wanted an experienced manager instead...hence Butterfield's move to Boston.

It's too bad, I wish he had taken the manager's job instead of Farrell a few years ago so that we could have at least seen what he would have done with this team....and maybe he'd be doing a good job and could have stuck around with some experience.
