Hall hit

Lol. I just watched the Hall hit on Clutterbuck. Unfortunate for Clutterbuck to say the least. Hope he's alright.

That hit is comical though, its exactly what happens when a guy who's probably thrown a couple big hits all his life finally gets a guy in the trolley tracks. Hall completely sells out on the hit at the last minute because he's worried he'll actually get the worst of it. The result is a pretty dirty play - though well-intentioned. - slufoot

Justin Schultz scene. It is a bit ironical that Schultz jumped ship on Anaheim to be with a developing team that would be a cup contender. Right now Anaheim looks a lot closer to being a cup contender then Edmonton. - kbooks

This doesn't have any direct fantasy impact considering the player involved, but the Isles finally waiving Rick DiPietro could be a boon to the entire rest of the team. This might be the first step that the franchise takes in finally getting rid of the dead weight in their lineup and actually getting into the business of genuinely trying to win NHL hockey games and making the playoffs. Hopefully, Okposo and Reasoner will be on the next Greyhound to Bridgeport. - Isle B.

Hated this trade when it was made and hate it more now lol :D

Only knock on JvR when he was in Philly was his healthy honestly, he showed glimpses of what we are seeing now already but would get derailed constantly by nagging injuries.

Other side of the coin from a realists point of view though would be that was a necessary move in terms of adding a top 4 defenseman with some youth. Any trade for a "good" defender always seems to be a costly trade in terms of what gets sent the other way. Look at what we gave up for a very old chris pronger a few years back.

Imagine how much you would hear everyone complain if we did not have schenn and our defense was that much worse!! - Rusty Pickles

It's too bad Burke isn't still there to receive some direct credit. The guy put his heart and soul into Toronto, and now people can have the perspective that the Leafs only became a good team after he was ousted. - Ross The Boss Palmer

Problems with the Oilers - J. Schultz situation:
1. This has come under major scrutiny since the Edmonton Journal posted it.

2. Matheson himself has since posted that he 'mis-spoke' in the article.
Simply look at his twitter feed,
"Jim Matheson‏@NHLbyMatty
for you conspiracy theorists, the Oilers did not know they were getting J. Schultz when they dealt for mentor D-man N. Schultz last Feb"
Jim Matheson‏@NHLbyMatty
"I misspoke when I wrote Oil brought in N. Schultz to play with J. Schultz. OK! They DID NOT know they were getting Justin last Feb."
Jim Matheson‏@NHLbyMatty
"Re N. Schultz-J. Schultz connection. Do you folks in twitterland ever make a mistake at work? You sound perfect"

3. Is he backtracking? Maybe. Do I care? Not really... why? See #4.

4. Edmonton was one of the best possible scenarios for J. Schultz to choose, and even if there was 'tampering', I feel that it's very unlikely anything more than a fine and a compensational pick would ever come of it (the last tampering case that I can recall involved Scott Stevens and the Blues, where the Blues had to pay a fine of 1.4M and a first round draft pick... the Oilers would have willingly paid a fine and a compensational 1st round pick if it meant they would get J Schultz. They have a billionaire owner and losing a 1st round draft pick for a top 2 Dman is still a victory at this point of an Oilers rebuild).

I could see the Ducks pursuing this, why wouldn't they if it could possibly get them some sort of compensation for an absolutely terrible situation for them, but I honestly feel like people are making news of something that is nothing more than a poor article from a decreasingly reliable 'insider' source. Matheson in the same article also wrote that Sam Gagner was an Oilers winger despite not playing that position this season... I am personally surprised that the Edmonton Journal would publish this without more due dilligence in fact checking it (likely due to the trusting the name that Matheson has accrued throughout his career), and I chalk it up to a bad article by a becomingly outdated source. I kind of expected more insight from both sides of this situation in these ramblings, considering that it comes from a nation/army writer reaching out to an audience that may not see both sides of a potentially incriminating story. Many readers may not have time to read the Copper and Blue article that you linked, and you simply state one view of an interesting story. - davecunningham85
