Yeah, but even if they are skilled guys I wouldn't say any of them are soft. They are all willing to get involved in the play. I saw lots of Nino and Bartschi in their WHL days - both were unafraid of the tough stuff. - angus

Ah well, "it's the struck dog that barks" as we say here, which explains my instant reaction... lol
I guess none of the Swiss NHL skaters (Streit, Josi, Brunner, Diaz and Y.Weber) is known as a tough guy... Maybe Sbisa - and the jury is still out on Nino and Bärtschi... - Wotan

Didn't mean it as a slight, but I guess it read that way.

My point was more of the difference of playing style between NHL and big ice rinks. More passing, less one-on-one puck battles. That is how Seguin is playing right now.

I have a ton of respect for the Swiss - their WJC teams are always gritty and compete hard. And Swiss NHL players are anything but soft. - angus

I really apprechiate your great work Angus, but I didn't like that dismissive comment about Swiss ice hockey (yeah, I'm biased, you guessed it, I'm Swiss :)
Has our national program really still not earned any respect in North America? Still using those same old stereotypes about the Swiss misses and their provincial league for softies? E.g. did you watch some of the last junior worlds? All guys with no guts and no fight in them, playing "a soft, perimeter game", right?
Ah well, I guess that's exactly the attitude of the big hockey nations what Swiss ice hockey is feeding of these days... So, I'm feeling better now :) - Wotan

I'd say all of the above for Drouin!

Schneider has been really good this year, outside of last night and the ANA game. I'm not worried as a fantasy owner. - angus

you know if you win 15 of 0 faceoffs you are pretty amazing at faceoffs! ..Sorry I had too.

And is it just me or does Schnieder not seem that confident in net as past couple seasons? He seems more of "This is my job to lose" than "That is my job to win". Just a thought - Rodgort

Yeah - I'd count Benn, Staal, Datsyyuk, Couture, Zetterberg, Richards all as C's.

Even with Yahoo's eligibility. Good submission thought, always interesting to see what other people think. My list is far from the holy grail - just my opinion - and I like to see others and compare it with mine.

And as you mention, D. Sedin gives little outside of G and A, but those are the bread and butter stats. It isn't hard to make up hits/PIM with depth picks/waiver wire moves.

Bogosian played so much because the Jets decided to go with six d-men, then one of them (Enstrom?) left the game early in the first. - Teh Doktor

What I don't understand with your ranking is it counts hits, but cuz of FOW you count a bunch of C like Benn, Staal, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Couture. And with hits shouldn't Brown be higher than Richards (even with FOW) and way higher than Lupul? For me Hartnell/Landeskog/Parise/Sedin would all be in a real LW top 10 list with those cats. - cdubb

here's my top ten, if we were counting standard stats (g, a, pim, sog) and peripherals (hits, blocked shots, faceoffs won):

NB. this list would of course not be the same if i didn't include peripherals...but since most of my leagues do, this is how i rank them.

based on yahoo lw eligibility.

1. Alex Ovechkin
2. Jamie Benn
3. James Neal
4. Jordan Staal
5. Pavel Datsyuk
6. Logan Couture
7. Henrik Zetterberg
8. Mike Richards
9. Evander Kane
10. Dustin Brown

If Joffrey Lupul would have played three continuous years like he did last year, he'd bump out Brown for me. Franzen is past his prime, although still a very good player to have in a pool with peripherals. A big determining factor for me is whether lw's take faceoffs or not. On the bubble: Landeskog, Hartnell and Parise. Daniel Sedin gives little outside of goals and assists... - TheWherewithal
