I've long been a Duchene fan, and appreciate your angle on this, but my personal take based on observation since coming into the NHL is that I'm not sure his decision making can keep up to maintain him at the upper-echelon of production. Sometimes skill alone will see some decent numbers early on in a career, but once the league knows your game it gets harder.

Every time I watch him I find my self yelling at the TV "why do you still have the puck?!" as though he's Mason Raymond. He appears to be what I have always referred to as a play-killer, frequently hanging onto the puck way too long, seemingly thinking he can make a play out of thin air, when really what he has done is mail it in while his linemates watch helplessly. In fact, he's doing that right now in the Spengler Cup.

Hopefully he figures it out and continues to progress, but I'm not nearly as convinced as I was 3 years ago. - sanstanya

Good piece... though I'm not sure the "sense of entitlement" link is correct. (?)
Sacco was re-signed for 2 more years in Colorado, that is worth noting and not necessarily good for Duchene, who has posted a 3-year +/- of +1, -8, -11 (last year). When Landeskog is posting a +20, it doesn't bode well for Duchene's ice-time.

I do think it was a good note about Downie perhaps providing some grit on a potential Duchene line. We'll see... I'm not big on the kid's overall game... raw skills = awesome, but there's something off currently and I'm not sure it will fix itself in the next year or two (with Sacco there). - Pengwin7
