The name calling makes it personal and takes away from the issues. Bettman is no more a "cancer" than any other person involved in the process. The fact that the term is used is very callous and shows an insensitivity by the players. Do you think his friends and family appreciate it?
Furthermore the players brought in Fehr to do battle with Bettman. He was their "White Knight" and he is failing miserably. Fehr does not care about hockey, never has, never will. This is just a great format for him to "prove" that salary caps do not work and he will be able to destroy a league based on his own ideology.
Bettman, as the representative of the owners, turned this into a 3 BILLION dollar league. The trough that all the players feed off has grown to the point where there are more millionaires per team than non-millionaires.
Players represent players, and they play and they want to get paid. From what I see Bettman has done pretty well on their behalf.
If you want to call him a cancer then just be prepared to be judged as a person to stupid to debate the issues, so you resort to name calling. It serves no point but to make the players look bad and give the owners another indication thyat they will eventually win this war of wills. - Chuk

Normally I'd agree with you about people with cancer not giving a shit about the term being used to define Bettman. My mom had, and died from, cancer and none of us could have cared less who was called a cancer as all we were focused on was her getting better.

But after Ron MacLean took some serious heat for referring to hockey players as heroes and firefighters, I've given up hope that society has any common sense left. People are so pc that the slightest bullshit line causes offense now. So if people can get offended about that, I'm sure somebody out there will get offended about the term "cancer" being used to describe someone. - germant
