Winter Classic

@Pengwin7- its ALL about the tv event. the winter classic is THE hockey event when it comes to the USA viewership. Infact if it wasnt for the huge spike in tv ratings, the game wouldve likely been relegated to the 'once in a decade' type show due to the high costs of the one off event. - Rollie1967

I wouldn't say it was dead.
It's like the All-Star game... it's still a big pull for the hosting-city.
And really, the NHL should let every team have their shot at hosting & benefits.

I'm not certain of all of the financial agreements that go into the Winter Classic, but I think it has value for the hosts. I certainly wouldn't think it would have much to do with the TV-event. It's competing against major college football bowl games.

I'm a big fan of both the Winter Classic & All-Star game. I realize it's the same product every year... but it's there to try to capture new audience, in different cities.

For the typical hockey fan, sure, it's the same 'ol, same 'ol with different teams.
But I don't think that's the purpose of the event.

For this kid (who grew up playing hockey on a small lake in Canada) - I enjoy it every year. - Pengwin7

Angus: No problem. It just made me laugh. I've written way worse. Your twitter thing was on the sidebar as well, so I was seeing it for the fourth time on a page. lol - newfcollins

It seems pretty clear now, that the PA wanted the Classic cancelled in order to punish the owners. As for why they scheduled it, well in case the PA caved to their ridiculous demnds of course. - jer_33

"Here is my post on Pavel Bure's journey to the Hall of Fame - he was the reason I fell in love with hockey."

******

"I am really looking forward to the Hockey Hall of Fame inductees this year – especially Pavel Bure and Joe Sakic, who both played an instrumental part in my falling in love with hockey from a young age."

******

"Pavel Bure, Mats Sundin, Joe Sakic, and Adam Oates will all be inducted into the HHoF on Friday. Bure, in particular, is the reason I first fell in love with hockey."

******

I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying Bure is the reason you fell in love with hockey? It's not quite clear. - newfcollins
