Vladimir Tarasenko's signing with SKA St. Petersburg was completed partially because he wanted the chance to play with New Jersey Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk. "I can say that it was one of the factors that influenced my decision to come here," said Tarasenko Monday. "It is the dream of every young player to play in the same team as such person." He said jet lag might be a factor after returning from North America, but he is good shape and ready to play. Tarasenko had just joined the Blues after four years in the KHL, but the NHL lockout caused him to return to Russia until it is settled. - InnocentBystander

Howe/Durnan

Someplace in the old stories, I read the one about Gordie Howe getting a breakaway on Durnan. Howe flipped his stick over to gain the advantage. Needless to say, Durnan flipped his stick over.

When reviewing on this theme, I learned that the 1946 Detroit Red Wings did not have a player age 30. Harry Lumley, the starting goalie, was 19 years old. Howe was the youngest player at age 18. Today, isn't half the Wings roster in its 30s?

The craziest thing is that supposedly, Jagr wanted to sign with the Habs for the upcoming season (thanks to Plekanec), but Bergevin apparently said: "Not interested." As if the Habs were THAT far from being a playoff team... - The lying Frenchman
