Fan Loss

With another lock-out...what are the odds that the NHL loses more fans....with football starting and baseball ending...seems like I have better things to watch than a maybe NHL league. What dolt figures that constantly insulting the fan base with greed makes sense? If we don't start by October, I probably won't be back until I see few years of actual playing, I don't like adjusting stats for labor disputes. Even drafting for fantasy seems like a futile exercise. Hell even soccer (futball) would be better than a blank screen. No chance to see the AHL as I am on the West Coast. - SharkMeat

If you want to watch stud prospects in front of a stud goalie, look no further than the Binghamton Senators.

The AHL will be wild for a couple of months or so. - Big Ev

When was Yakupov ever going to Oklahoma City? He was drafted out of the CHL and isn't 20 yet. The guys under 20 out of the CHL who get to play in the AHL this year have all played NHL games. Yakupov hasn't, so it's either Sarnia or Russia for him as I understand it. - Dakkster

Yesterday: Наиль Якупов ‏@Nail10_1993
Going to Russia today :)!

And, Dmitry Chesnokov ‏@dchesnokov
#KHL Neftekhimik General Director says Nail Yakupov may play for the club as early as Wednesday. (via SovSport) #Oilers

As for Tarasenko: Despite Tarasenko having been sent down to the AHL, his agent confirms talks with #KHL's SKA are ongoing. #stlblues - thatbirdguy

I don't understand the NHL executives logic: if players have options (playing in other leagues) and rather than sitting on their hands and doing nothing, they exercise that option, how is that bad for players? Desperation is the first sign of weakness. Second sign of weakness? Attempting to justify your position by arguing how it helps the other side. - slacker_george

http://www.bergerbytes.ca/2012/09/nhl-players-undermining-their-cause/

Some choice quotes from an anonymous GM:

“Let ‘em go,” howled the executive, instantly recognizable to all hockey fans but requesting – as he must – anonymity. “The players think they are threatening the owners by signing contracts in Europe. In fact, what they’re showing is they don’t have a lot of stomach to remain together in this fight. And that’s what we expected.”

When asked – albeit rhetorically – what edge the players might have in this dispute, the executive replied, “None. We took away all of their leverage by canceling the playoffs in 2005. And, we’ll do it again, if we have to.” - Dakkster

Honestly I don't think that's a bad signing by the jets. Kane has a ton of upside and is progressing at a steady pace. There have been a number of questionable signings this offseason (e.g., Wideman) but Kane's is actually right about where I would have pegged it. - MGW

Kane has barely scratched the surface. 30 goals in 74 games, 2nd line, 2nd PP unit, sub-par linemates mostly. - DuklaNation
