Big Ev is right, Borowiecki is definitely the front-runner among the D-prosects - he and Lundin will probably rotate in and out of the lineup in that 6/7 role.

No way Greening retains his role in the top 6 unless all of the forward prospects fail miserably - in addition to Silfverberg, Zibinejad, Stone, Peterson & Da Costa, there's also Mike Hoffman who should get into a few games with the big club. Even Peter Regin is more likely to spend some time in the top 6 (if healthy) than Greening. Greening has good speed and size but doesn't have the hands/offence to belong in the top 6 - he'll be a solid 3rd/4th line asset going forward.

The good news is, with so many promising prospects up front, odds are at least one or two of them should be ready to step in on one of the top 2 lines, since I don't think Ottawa will be bringing anyone in from outside the organization at this point.

@aleco83, you will likely see Greening in a bottom 6 role this season. As of right now, the Top 6 looks to be Silfverberg-Spezza-Michalek, Latendresse-Turris-Alfredsson. Latendresse is a proven 20 goal scorer but obviously his health has not been proven, if that makes any sense ;)

your thoughts are good though as they are still looking to find a Top line/6 winger, as they tried hard for Nash. They will likely look at other options including Ryan and whoever else is available out there. - Big Ev

yeah you're right Tim, Borowiecki will really only be relevant for hits and PIM. Was just pointing out that he should be the main rookie d-man to make it at least out of camp.

Petersson is a slick player for sure and underrated for fantasy. He might be only behind Spezza in terms of pure talent in the entire organization. He'll need to ramp up his two-way play and work ethic in the next couple of seasons in order to make the NHL, otherwise he will just be a Filatov. I did the prospect profile on him over at Dobber Prospects if you or anyone else is interested. - Big Ev

I'm not very comfident in their top 6 as you laid it out, Turris seemed a different player since the trade and his chem with Alffy was good but can he finally find consistency? Latendresse, enough said. Greening is a solid forechecker that reminds me of Malone but does he really belong in the top 6? I know they have some talent in the pipeline as you pointed out but they may want more proven producers to make a serious run. - aleco83

Thanks Evan. Borowiecki doesn't strike me as a huge fantasy asset, but he might be a solid replacement for Carkner. Is that how you see him? Stone probably should have been mentioned, but Petersson piqued my interest a bit more as a guy who some of the readers may not have heard of before. Quite a solid forward depth mix the Senators have assembled! - Tim Lucarelli

Good article, Tim. The only guys you have omitted are Mark Borowiecki, who is the surest bet to round out the D (Gilroy will not be back, Wiercioch will need more time, and Benoit is just an AHL d-man), and Mark Stone + Mike Hoffman, who will challenge for a spot but will most likely play in the AHL. - Big Ev
