Dobber, a whole article on Tampa and no mention of MSL? Is it that big of a no-brainer he continues to be a 70+ pt player? At his age, its debatable.

Weber - if your right he would cost a lot. Could the Oilers get in on the action without dumping Hall, RNH, Eberle or Yakapov? I dunno... - frozenpools

Wanted to add some comments on these ramblings. Had Thomas in my dynasty keeper abd refuse to sit on him. Dropped him and he was picked up today by rival GM. I dont believe someone that age can take a year off at the most competitve and demanding position in hockey, then return and be worth a damn. Screw it...and I have been a HUGE supporter of Thomas over the years, believing one day he would not only be a starter, but be an elite starter and I even thouht he could win the Vezina...all before most people believed he was fit to be a backup. Now though, I am done. His reign is through in my eyes. From a fantasy perspective it really puts a damper on my goalie situation next year...I have Lundqvist, Niemi, Reimer, Montoya and a bunch of prospects not ready for NHL duties - The Hockey Hitman

PARISE/KOVY

I get the point you are making about Parise getting his game back, but to compare him to Kovy at this point when it is obvious that Kovy is not 100% healthy and hasn't been for weeks seems like low hanging fruit, Dobber.

I'm astonished when the main stream media slams a player for not producing in the playoffs (see Gaborik, Marian) when they do not know all of the hidden injuries that surface EVERY year at this time after a team gets eliminated. It's like they think if the repeatedly call a player out for not producing, the player or team will have had enough of the criticism and voluntarily give up what is ailing them. Will never happen. And the fact that this treatment is most often applied to Euro players is even more frustrating.

Let's all hold off on dogging any players for their perceived lack of effort until any possible reasons for said "dogging" emerges. I highly doubt that Kovy and Gaborik stopped caring about winning all of a sudden.

Therrien is not a Cup winner? No duh. The same thing can be said about anyone that never won the thing. As far as what the future holds, it's pretty presumptuous to pretend to know which coach will achieve this level of success.Therrien got to the last dance once, there's no point in saying he could never do it. - Haddock

Crosby now Thomas...Vokoun.

@Dobber
i'm in the same boat as you with Crosby and now Thomas sitting out but at least with Crosby, he was on the IR and allowed for a 'replacement'.

Thomas not only screwed the Bruins but all his fantasy owners too ;)
What makes it worse is that traded for him at the trade deadline and i just re-signed him to a 3 year deal.
Luckily i have Rask!

As a Pens fan, i like the signing of Vokoun but that is a significant cap hit for 20-30 games max. I hope that he pushes Fleury to earn his spot and not have it handed to him. I do think there were probably some cheaper options out there but Vokoun was certainly tops in terms of quality.

As a MAF owner, my goalies take another hit but i'm hoping that a few less Ws will equal a few more shutouts and better stats overall.

I havent watched any part of any games since round 2. Boring hockey and doesnt interest me at all. Im afraid we're back in the low scoring era already. Whats new is old again. I have zero confidence that the powers that be area capable of fixing this. - DuklaNation

Apparently there is not the name of a dog on the cup. Urban legend I guess. Anyway dobber you are correct about the qualifications for a player to get their name on the cup, but teams can appeal to the commish to get names added i.e. Vlad Konstantinov. There is a maximum of 55 names per year that can go on it, and can include coaches, management and staff.
So there you go :-) - steve_oshp

name on the cup

I don't think there is any rule about how many games you have to play. How can there be when an owner can put their friggin' DOG's name on the cup??? Whoever started allowing anything other than the players and the coaches names being on the cup has cheapened it IMO. - steve_oshp

I'm sure I was one of many whose interest diminished with each passing playoff game. Not that I begrudge the Kings their victory - Quick is definitely the MVP. And the NHL should be happy with LA's run. But so many teams I'd invested in are gone. Ain't that true for you too?

Parise vs. Kovalchuk: I hate to say it, but what is it about Russians? Cash? I'm sorry - I'll continue to bid up your promise at auction (Malkin's the real deal).

Gagne: class act by the Kings, getting him in when they could afford to. (Sorry Brad - take one for the team.)

Vokoun? WTF? Brilliant signing by the Penguins.

I love this web site. - Steffen

anyone who thinks Rask isnt gonna step right into the starting position for years to come, making it almost impossible for Thomas to slide back into starter in 1 year, is drunk or high. Trade him in the off-season next year, his value will be highest, but do NOT start that season with him. - itzjules
