technically Schneider lost his 'rookie' status the year before last, as he had played 8games then 25 two years ago- his rookie year. 33 this past year. Hell thats more games than Pascal Leclaire usually played as a #1!
He's got 68 NHL games, with 38 wins and a .928sv pct- and is cool as cucumber (unlike Roberto). There is zero question marks about his ability to be a #1 in Vancouver, some still about Lack being ready- or where hes best served playing.(same thing could be said about Roberto :P ) - Rollie1967

....Sure Weber had his usual dominant year and deserves credit where credit is due. I just don't why there are so many "anti" Karlsson winning the Norris. Karlsson's year was exceptional.....give the guy a break. Not many can do (or have done) what Karlsson has accomplished in today's modern game. Karlsson = Respect = Norris

You're right. Point I'm trying to make is, assuming that defense and offense are balanced equally - Karlsson's gap over Weber offensively is great than Weber's gap over Karlsson defensively. Add up the two values and it's an easy Karlsson win. That's over and above my point about the supporting cast - Dobber

Schneider may not be considered by some to be a rookie, but he hasn't played a full season in the NHL yet. He hasn't played more than 33 games.

You make a good point re gotta a give him a shot at some point. - hawkdog

Grigorenko's fall may be in part to his poor showing in the playoffs...while he had mono! Hopefully thats the case rather than Espo2.0

a Schneider/Lack combo wouldnt be the worst thing they could do,(Schneider is no rookie) but Lack may be better served playing more in Chicago vs. only getting 20-25 games in Vancity, thing is Lack is 24 now- gotta give him a shot at some point. - Rollie1967

Norris debate

Dobber, I'm going to disagree with the criteria you are using to evaluate the norris winner. The trophy is presented to "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position".

You are taking into account which defenseman was most important to his team, which is not part of the criteria. If it were, I suspect lidstrom would not have won as many trophies as he did as he played on some pretty stacked teams. - immortal_leafs

Do you really think if Gillis is able to trade Lou he will put 2 rookies in net? I would guess they pick up an elder statesman to back up Schneider, maybe even Vokoun. I just can't see Lack getting enough playing time. But it should be interesting to see what happens! - hawkdog
