"This season, however, all those fears were put to rest as Seguin led Boston with 67 points, and left Leaf fans trying to convince themselves once again that acquiring Phil Kessel was worth it."

Kessel wasn't traded for Seguin. This may seem like semantics, but truth be told the Leafs were 3 wins away from selecting out of the top 5 in 2009-10.

The Leafs rebuild would have been much different without a top-notch pick to build around - the picked Kessel as an established top 5 pick rather than taking their chances potentially drafting anywhere in the top 10.

.. oh, and Kessel's p/g season was also a nice consolation. - jer_33

I think the opportunity to buy low on him was last summer, nobody in their right mind would undervalue him this summer. That's when I got him and it worked out great for me! - Bender

Excellent analysis on Seguin's Year #2.
Ice-time increase, PP increase, consistent linemates.

One thing I like about Boston is that they realized the benefit of playing Seguin on the wing. IMO, it is a better adjustment for an NHL rookie center. Move him to wing for his first year or two or three. Let him get the feeling for NHL speed and play with a veteran center. When he's ready, shift him over to center.

The Flyers placed Giroux on wing for his first half season & second (full season) in the NHL. I'd love to see Dallas play Jamie Benn on the wing & let Steve Ott handle all the center responsibilities for another year. Though not every team (EDM, NYI) has experienced centers that can provide this advantage for their rookie centers.

Seguin only played 17min/game this year.
Bump him up to 19min/game for 2012-2013 (12% increase) and PP1 time (+10% increase) and we should see his point totals also jump the same amount (10%) from 67pts to ~75pts.

With BOS being eliminated early... it's probably a great off-season to buy on him. - Pengwin7
