Rad64, you don't draft a guy just because he's more NHL ready the another guy. Be patient - Big Ev

SeaDawg - that's a pretty tough choice to take Couturier #1 overall, but I could see the logic. Most likely scenario would be to trade down, but sometimes other teams don't actually want to trade up, so you end up in a tricky situation fast. That's what happened when the Kings took Thomas Hickey 4th overall(whoops). They thought Hickey was their man and couldn't trade down. Instead, they could have drafted a player ranked higher - say Voracek or Gagner.

Kevin - Staal is a great example as well. Very valid comparison.

Ross - I like where your head's at! - Tim Lucarelli

If you want another comparison you don't have to go far from who was on the other side of the ice for the Flyers. Jordan Staal has been a pretty formidable 2-way forward in his own right at an early age. Granted, I know he spent a good chunk of his rookie campaign on the wing, but he was lined up against the opposing top line well before he was 20. - Kevin

I said it at the draft and I still feel the Oilers should have drafted him instead of RNH. Sure, RNH has more offensive upside, but Couturier would be a better fit and would have enabled them to win more games. I also think his offensive potential is underrated. He may not reach his potential on a team like Philly, because he might end up a 3rd line centre, but he could have been the big bodied, 1st line centre the Oilers need to play with Eberle and Hall. - SeaDawg
