You are advocating trading Karlsson, Letang, or Byfuglien? - Jeff Angus

This article just highlights the year to year variability in D valuations. If you have someone at or near the top of this list, my recommendation is to trade him now while his value is high. Odds are that his value will be lower next year.

It's a nice day in an 18 team fantasy league when 6 out of your 7 defenceman are listed either in the top ten or HM. Karlsson, Byfuglien, Green, OEL, Carlson and Keith. Too bad Corvo sucked this year. I love the article. I'm not just saying that! LOL

Good discussion, gents. As I said in the intro - a tough list to put together.

A few things...

Yandle - I'm scared of the OEL factor
Edler - no competition, great PP for next three years - money in the bank for 45+ pts
Green - sure, he isn't the same player, but it is a risk I would still take - Jeff Angus

His numbers are amazing considering the total number of goals his team scored, in comparison to Green's great years and total number of goals that his team scored. Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Semin were putting up points galore. In Ottawa, Spezza did well this season, but after him there is a quite a drop off. - Ross The Boss Palmer

Not sure Edler should be so high...Did not do as well in the Vancouver system as Ehrhoff did...Some real mental errors in the playoffs as well...Some Ranger deserved to be mentioned as a team defense they have been awesome.....Great thought process as always.... - mike hess

I'm a little surprised by Yandle's dramatic drop, just one year after saying he almost snuck in at the top spot.

And Green no longer belongs on this list. If you watch him play, he's absolutely useless on the ice. I think his productive days are far behind him. - Massimo Cinelli

What's your take on Visnovksy? Was amazing last year and was very poor this year.

Will he bounce back in Anaheim? - Marcus Lepkowski

Very, very good list.

I still Chara has a lot of gas. In multi-cat leagues, Chara/Buff/Weber/Letang should be tightly grouped in 2-5. If you want to put Chara at #5 due to age... OK.

AP is too high.
This guy is a terrific real-world NHL defensemen.
That said... his game is very disciplined (hurts his PIM).
Also - I think it is a bit nutty to give him 70pt upside.
A defensemen has to be able to hit 40 ESP/30 PPP to get to that level.
I don't think AP's game will ever translate to 40 ESP.

Swap Chara/AP and I'd give this list full marks.
Overall... still very, very good. - Pengwin7

Except the love of the Capitals is not just...they dont play the up tempo games anymore...Green and Ovie should not be on any top ten lists. - derek

Great list as always but a lack of mention of Mr. Michael Del Zotto is criminal in the HM list. - William McBride
