FYI bud, I am not a Flyers or Caps fan. I am just an objective hockey fan who sees the Penguins, Crosby and Malkin for what they really are. Overrated, dirty, cry babies. Sorry but no biased Penguin fan will change that. Take a step back and look at this team objectivley, you will be amazed at what you weren't seeing. - Haakan Loon

Carkner left his side of the ice and went in high towards the face of Boyle. Hit his opponent a few times while he was down on the ice and didn't even hurt Boyle when all was said and done.

And Boyle came up with his gloves on. LOL

Classless is a better description for what Carkner did

Then again Boyle is on fire with 3 goals in the series so perhaps rangers fans should be thanking Carkner - paul

Pens overrated here. CONSISTENTLY.

Sorry Dobber, but while the Pens are a good team on paper, they are far from being the best team in the league even this season. I think you're living too much in the fantasy realm - not surprising though since its your job.
Hockey isn't basketball, where 3 stars can guarantee wins. Good teams have depth and that's something this Pens team sorely lacks.
They have the world's 2 best centers, and their 3rd is very strong - better than most team's 2nd. Their PP QB is elite, and their goalie is top-10. But that's where it ends.
James Neal is a product of his linemates, on most other teams he'd be a 30-30 guy. The rest of the Pens wingers are 2nd-3rd line tweeners on most teams. Their 4th line is useless, and Paul Martin and Matt Niskanen as 3-4 defencemen is not desireable. Neither are physical or good on the PK (You want one of those attributes in your 3-4 D).
So no its not surprising at all that their down to the Flyers. If someone said before the series Flyers in 5 - I wouldn't have been surprised in the least - though I'd have said the same about Penguins in 5. - slufoot

It amuses me all these Flyers fans that come out of the woodwork when they are about to do something shocking like sweep the Pens. I agree with Dobber...no one in their "right" mind would have bet a sweep...atleast not any significant cash.

Hakan is one of these guys too...he is either a Flyers or Caps fan. - derek

not to be a douche...
but i bet on a flyers sweep. my pens fan friend said hed go 10-1 odds and i like the way the flyers stack up against pitt. so im one game away from winning $100.

admittedly, i AM a flyers fan, but i really did think we had a good shot at it. The pens have looked very, very mortal against us all year. - Tyler Haskell

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

This Penguins team is the best in 20 years? Ummmm, the 01/02 Wings say hello. Hall of famers on the fourth line. Grind line in full swing. Lidstrom at his best, Hasek, Yzerman, Fedorov, Shanahan, Larionov, Hull, Robitaille, Chelios, etc, etc, etc. Bowman at the helm.

I can come to think of other more dominant and more complete teams than this year's Pens, even discounting this playoff belly splash.

Hyperbole, your name is Darryl Dobbs. - sentium

Fossile... agree with going with conference seeding, but to do anything else would be too much. The conferences would be weighted with more games played between conference teams so a 9th place team in another conference is not automatically better than an 8th place team in another conference just because they have more regular season points.

Larry, how can you say the intent was to hurt? If you have ever played hockey then you know that the intent is always to hit hard, but I bet most players go not intend to injure. I didn't see the forearm contact the chin. Saying it should have been charging is not correct as it looks like he glided from the red line.

Dobber, I would say the Pens likely have the fire power as good (relatively) as the Oilers in the Gretzky era, but I don't think they could be considered the best team in the last 20 years with defense the way it is playing. I think a guy like Jay Bouwmeester would do wonders on that team and could likely be had in the offseason if they can afford his cap hit. - Bender

Brown hit

I didnt like the Brown hit, simply because his sole intent was to hurt Sedin, the fact that Sedin had released the puck and was starting to turn towards the bench/Brown was immaterial to Brown, he already had Sedin in his tracks and was bracing for impact,he wasnt cognicant of the puck,or henriks viewpoint. It was a forearm to the chest/neck/jaw which probably knocked the wind out of Henrik and hurt his jaw-maybe some whiplash to boot. It wasnt half as dirty as either of Neals hits, but a 2 minute penalty for charging shouldve been called (not that it wouldve helped the canucks awful PP). If the game wasnt so close, it was the type of play that could set off a melee. - Larry

"The Pens result is the most shocking thing I’ve ever seen in hockey. To me, the Penguins have the best team that I’ve seen in twenty years – the skill, depth, grit, coaching and everyone’s healthy."

WOW! Overrate the Penguins much Dobber??? They are a fourth place team!!! I think you need to end your man crush on them. They have zero discipline, a terrible goalie and often benefit from league and officiating favortism due to their star power. That does not make them one of the best 50 teams in the past 20 years, nevermind the best. I know you have Malkin and Crosby on many of your draft teams but you should try to be somewhat more objective when it comes to the Penguins. - Haakan Loon

The thing about the Brown hit is that had Sedin not at the last minute turned, it would have been a hit from behind. It happened way too fast for anyone to convince me that Brown was anticipating that, so in my mind the intent was to hit from behind. Isn't intent what the league is suppose to be cracking down on? Brown got away with one there.. - Kyle

Great hit by Dustin Brown, called finishing your check for those who don't play hockey. I really liked Henrik's reaction. He doesn't complain, doesn't whine, throws Dustin Penner into the boards about 3 minutes later. Sydney Crosby should be taking notes on how to play the game like a man. Henrik earned my respect today. - Mike Brown

Brown hit was clean as can be - Sedin said as much after the game. Looks late on replay, but any hit in slo-mo looks late.

Brown caught him and knocked his wind out (you can tell by how he reacts - wasn't knocked out but couldn't breathe).

Really impressed with Brown this series - guy is dominating in all facets. - Jeff Angus

TSN timed Browns hit as .33s after Sedin passed the puck. Romes hit on Horton was 1s after. I would think anything over 0.5 is a penalty and could be suspension based on injury? - frozenpools

Brown hit on Sedin

Totally agree with VW82...those were some very Vancouver-biased announcers! The hit itself didn't directly hurt Sedin--it was Sedin's whiplash and his impact with the ice that shook him up. A good, clean hit by Brown with no intent to injure whatsoever. The puck was not long gone, and Sedin's head was not the principle point of contact (watch the slow motion replay, Sedin's head snaps back as a response to his chest being struck, NOT from the initial hit). And I think Brown was smart to stay out of the crap after the whistle...he's been one of LA's best players all series and not only kept himself out of the box but avoided any potential injury risk from getting in a fight. It may be looked at by others as a "cowardly" move, but long-term it was very smart by Brown (especially if the Kings advance to the 2nd round or beyond). Nice to see a clean hit after watching that ugly Pens/Flyers game yesterday. - Brian

What the hell is the color guy talking about on the CBC broadcast? He says that the puck was "long gone" by the time Brown hit Sedin. The puck was not even gone for half a second. It was a great, clean hit - a rare thing in this year's playoffs. - VW82
