One of my fantasy teams is so bad that I shouldn't need to tank, but, because others started doing so I was forced into it.

I don't mind tanking but I do believe if someone does it there should be some type of penalty. - Superchief

I agree that this is a very touchy subject for a Commish to manage and that a team should always play their best. We are a salary cap league 2G, 4D, 12F & 3 bench - Keep 7. Our 12 team (expanding to 14) league had this issue last year where and Owner benched Stamkos, Malkin & Semin for studs like MacCaurter, Koivu & Sutter. Needles to say something had to ne done as we did not have a rules to address this. What we came up with was; At the trade deadline the bottom 5 teams points reset to 0 (tracked separately) and whichever team generates the most points over that period gets the 1st overall pick and 2nd through 5th based on the points earned as well. The only condition is if a bottom 5 team happens to make it into the top 5 (money) they do not qualify for a top 5 pick and would end up with the 6th pick. So this year, the bottom 5 are all competing and the top 7 are competing for the money.
No tankers this year!! - Stephen Alexander

whoever gains the most points between jan 1 and the end of the season wins cash - so there's incentive to not tank. - Repent Tokyo

One league i am in has had ethical dilemmas all year (and this is like the 3rd year of he keeper). We had tanking, so we made it a commish call with possible loss of draft pick, and we deceided to make the bottom few draft picks a lottery.

The latest issue has been streaming. we already have a 50 move limit for the season. but this year i had about 30 moves left when the playoffs started, so i have been using a roster spot to stream for the playoffs. It is obviously in the letter of the rules, but the question is if it is in the spirit of the rules. I argued that it was part of the plan for my team management all season to have these moves to stream in the playoffs and could not see how anyone with roster moves in playoffs would not be looking to do the same thing.

this led to the question of, "when is streaming ok"... - notoriousjim

To avoid this in the league I run, we have the bottom 6 teams that do not make the playoffs play for the right to the 1st overall pick in next year's draft. So the team that wins the "Loser's Bracket" would get the 1st pick, runner-up would get the 2nd and so on down. In addition to preventing tanking, this helps to keep all teams interested all the way through the end. - Patrick

In the league I run (16 teams, H2H), we have put 2 measures in place to help deter tanking:

1) A draft lottery. Bottom 4 teams take place, and the first four picks of the draft's first round are each determined by this draft. (As opposed to a pick one and they get 1st overall.)

2) The Toilet Bowl - With 8 of the 16 teams making the playoffs, the other 8 teams play for (or not for) the Toilet Bowl. It's the same playoff tree structure of best-plays-worst that we're all familiar with, but instead of wanting to win to move on to the next round, you want to win to be eliminated. The "winner" of the Toilet Bowl (the team that lost 3 consecutive match-ups) not only "wins" the Toilet Bowl, but they have to supply an additional $50 to the next draft, to be used for food and/or beverages. - Screaming Jawa
