From a Pittsburgh Penguins OFFICIAL statement:
"The diagnosis of Dr. Robert S. Bray, a neurological spine specialist based in Los Angeles, is that Sidney Crosby had suffered a neck injury in addition to a concussion." - Spooky

Fact: Crosby's last injury was a soft-tissue injury in the neck. Not a concussion. They just thought it was. Hence why he is back sooner. - Big Ev

CBS is already spouting that he will start on the third line with Kennedy.

He may be fully aware of his own body but don't fool yourself into thinking there are no other pressures involved - teammates, fans, sponsors, however its more likely he's tired of sitting in press box and having people come in during intermission and ask him when are you coming back?. Why not wait till the last 5 games of the season to prep for the playoffs?

Crosby's recent injury was not a concussion, huh? Who is in Fantasyland now?
And I never said for him not to play anymore. I simply suggested that maybe a couple of days being symptom-free is quite enough. But you're right (as always). He does know his own body. These guys did, too: http://www.totalprosports.com/2011/09/01/13-nhl-careers-cut-short-by-concussions/

literally every player is at risk of a concussion. Let's just not play hockey anymore, then and everything will be good and we can go dance around in a field with puppy dogs and rainbows. - Big Ev

Comparing Lindros to Crosby is simply being overdramatic and foolish IMO. Crosby's recent injury was not even a concussion. Laperriere and Pronger are also completely different cases, and they were both way older than Crosby which in itself matters a lot.

If a guy says he's ready to come back, you put him in. That simple, really. He knows his own head and body. - Big Ev

Oh, I'm being overdramatic but you're opinion is the valid one? Was that what you said after his FIRST concussion? Perhaps that opinion was "a bunch of bologna." L
isten, if Crosby never gets concussed again I'm fine with that. And great for Bergeron & Booth if, indeed, they are both fine now. But it seems like a stretch to think Crosby will NOT get hurt again, and if you ask guys like Lindros, Primeau, Laperierre, Pronger they might say to wait awhile too. - Spooky

Good grief the overdramatic opinions of guys like Spooky are ridiculous. Guy can't do anything right int he eyes of some, or else he's gonna get "another hit that will end his career". A bunch of bologna. Do we HAVE to show you guys like Bergeron and Booth whoa re more than fine now? - Big Ev

As a Flyer fan I amittedly have no love for Crosby. Still, I'll hate to see the guy go down for the third (and last) time when somebody decides to have a run at him. And it WILL happen. After seeing Lindros, Primeau, Pronger, Giroux, Briere, and Voacek among others NHL guys like Toews lose significant time, I can't help but wonder why Sidney would come back so soon (has he even had heavy contact yet?) Why not just wait til next year? IMO: This is going to end badly. - Spooky

Post Script:

Keep up the great work! I love this place, and you get unfairly flogged a lot for putting yourself out there and being the leader of this community. I showed a couple more buddies this website the other day, and after examining what the site has to offer (which they were barely able to do because there's so much), they were ecstatic. Much respect to you and what has come together here at Dobber Hockey. - Ross The Boss Palmer

No worries Dobbs, I was referring to Bball's comment, seemed like he took your trade scenario break down personally. I am a big fan of Max Pac, and well, every trade/league is different. It's not like you tried to get Eberle for Jagr. - Ross The Boss Palmer

Ross - I did take it personally, not trying to hide that. And of course the trade offer was for the playoffs. After all, at the time I had Pavelski, Clowe and Thornton. So to me, Pac vs. Couture was almost even, but Couture gets a boost in value because of playoffs. So Stephen Weiss should more than compensate for that. But adding a first? Those are like gold in this league, a first is so hard to get. And still couldn't tear Couture away from either of them. Both were convinced that Couture is a probable 80-point player, while Pacioretty is 65.

We all have deals that we can't believe another guy didn't take. And when things swing so suddenly over the course of a few weeks that it's obvious that the other guy made a mistake, then that's perfect scenario for some trash talking. It's what makes fantasy hockey so fun!

bball - as I note above, I had Big Joe, Little Joe and Clowe. So it was a priority to gather as many Sharks as I could. I'm not sure what you mean by giving up prospects - it was Weiss, Pac, and a 1st... but my team was up against the 31-player roster limit, we can keep 27. So I had lots of good assets to burn with what is the deepest roster in the league.
Not "tooting my own horn" but sharing a story. I'm sorry if you found it boring, or if it rubbed you the wrong way. Just an innocent chat over a beer - that's what my ramblings are all about. Casual, fun conversation. We're all friends here.

I believe the 'overpayment' aspect in the trade offer was for the playoff points he would receive if the Sharks make the playoffs.

You took that trade scenario very personally - Ross The Boss Palmer

If you were so high on Pac and so low on Couture then why did you try twice to make the deal? Did you just feel like being generous and decide that you no longer wanted a couple of decent prospects on your team? I do not take you for a fool sir. You tried to overpay and sell high toon get a player that is an ultimate buy low. You know it. I know it. And anyone who actually watches the west coast teams rather than looking at a box score and making a generalization. Couture will be the player, along with Pavelski that Sharks fans hope to build around for the future. So if you honestly feel that Pac is the equal to Couture, you better hope the prospects you got in your deal pan out because if they don't, you just got owned. And if Pac is not equal to Couture in your mind, maybe you should tone down the tooting of your own horn. Makes you look like you really don't know how to look at the big picture or really portray it in a manner that would build credibility. - bball

2013 Predictions

Next seasons predictions will separate the men from the boys, perhaps like no season before. I suppose I should argue that this seasons predictions have separated the men from the boys. People in their right minds would have stuggled with: Kessel, Karlsson, Spezza, Hossa, Lupul, Elias, Pominville, Whitney, Parenteau, Hartnell, O Jokinen, Zetts, Pacioretty, Filppula, Vrbata, Wheeler, Desharnais, Florida line (moving back where they belong)... in the top 50. (feel free to add a name)

This doesn't address the fall guys or goaltenders: Crosby, Ovy, Green, Backstrom, Sedin, Sedin, Perry, Briere, P Kane... I have tried not to include too many injury guys.

The market place, where scoring is concerned, is in as big a flux as we've seen in some time. - Jocular Hockey Manager
