The Predators get a strong faceoff-winning center who is good on the PK. The Sabres get another nr. 1 pick which they can deal or use since this upcoming Entry Draft is supposed to be a deep one. With their excellent scouting department, the pick should turn out to be a keeper. You could say the Predators overpaid, but they want to win now and by pulling out all stops they are telling Weber and Suter that they are serious, so stick around.
