Koivu

Saku Koivu has a no movement contract. Since 1/1/2012 they are 19G 12W 3L and 3OTL. If the Ducks continue to win at the present rate I'd expect them to reach 89 points with 26G 15W 7L 4OTL. If so then it would take one of Chicago, Los Angeles or Phoenix to perform worst than they are doing now and Calgary, Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota to not perform better than they are doing now. That would be a hard win rate to continue. Unless they start losing more frequently between now and Feb 29 I expect them to be buyers with Hagman, Blake, Ludmyn, Brookbank, and Pelly as possible movement pieces. - Robert

Nash

Yeah I dunno the only problem with Nash is what is the possible return and will it be worth it?

The thing is the Jackets are struggling financially, and they need someone to market especially if they are going to have the ASB there next season. They need a face of the franchise, so fans can relate.

If they move Nash, who's going to take over? Carter has been kicking the can and wanting to go, so I don't think he's the next face of the franchise. Johansen is too young and still too raw...

So if they land a package (of the latest rumor), 1st, Kreider and Dubinsky... so I'm thinking how does that help them now? Dubi isn't a "star" player that fans can relate. Kreider is still probably a couple of seaon's away. Rangers are cup contenders so the first is probably a late 1st rounder, so there's not a lot of value there...

If they are intent on moving Nash, they might be better off waiting for the summer, watch the Parise sweepstakes then pounce on the teams that missed out on that signing, then toss Nash to them as an alternative... - Ryan Ma

Brunette

I dunno that's the thing, I think he was initially signed there as a depth piece, but he's been eclipsed on the depth charts by Stalberg, Kruger, Frolik and even Morrison...

The picture that I had in my head at the start of the season, was he was a tweener probably 3 line, but he should see some top-six time with Sharp, Toews, Kane and Hossa. That time went to Stalberg, Kruger and Frolik instead...

I think a lot of it depends on if they can land that 2nd line center. If they land Koivu (as I suggest) or Roy, then Brunette could be moved.

At 38, he's still only 1 season removed from being a 50(ish) point player. If he goes to a team like the Wild or Avs where they give him a top-six spot along with 18+ minutes, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go point-per-game for the final 20 games, which is what poolies and a playoff bubble team could certainly use. - Ryan Ma

Always like these types of articles; just a couple comments:

I can't imagine Brunette would be on the move -- I'm guessing he signed there to be a depth piece on a Cup-possible team. I don't see him being quick to go elsewhere at 36, and I can't imagine the market will be big enough to warrant shipping him out.

I also read this morning that there's a lot of rumours/sources saying Nash has IS being potentially shopped (possibly having moved his no-movement clause). Columbus could be the most interesting part of deadline day: http://www.mynhltraderumors.com/2012/02/14/blue-jackets-reportedly-put-rick-nash-on-the-trade-market/
