If they dont switch to a 3 point regulation win- then why not just go to a 10minute OT and no shootout? with zero points given for a tie! At 4 on 4, I dont think a 10min. OT period would take much longer than a shootout, and would be exciting and a truer form of the game rather than a glorified skills competition. With a 2 point swing available for the OT win- you better damn well win it. Not to mention the last few minutes in regulation should be more intense as their is no reason to hold back trying to get atleast 1 point. - Larry

How about just 2 points for a win and eliminate ties. If it's all or nothing, a team cannot play to not lose. - Charlie

I like the style of writing on Holik's blog, but I cannot overlook obvious typos/grammar issues. I only had to read half the article to get one of each. - Atomic Wedgy

Artificial parity

Jeff, I am glad someone else is taking note of the false parity that the points system has created. I mentioned this in the ramblings a few days back along with Ducklanation. The NHL will tell you until they are blue in the face that it is down to the salary cap but that is only a small piece of the story, the point system is the main cause.
As you state above until they change to 3 points for a win more teams will try to avoid losing than winning. Why do we have to award a point to the losing team?? So that the losing fans still go home happy, please. Your team loses suck it up and come back for the win next time. Frustrates the hell out of me. - UKflames

The Cam Barker line might be the funniest thing you've ever written, Jeff.

And Steve's comment below is exactly what I thought while reading the Holik-on-Kovy excerpt. "Overused his cut-to-the-middle move." Yup, that's Ovie. - CommittedToTheIndian

I wonder if that's not what the Caps need to do to get Ovechkin going? - steve laidlaw
