At 4 on 4, I dont think a 10min. OT period would take much longer than a shootout, and would be exciting and a truer form of the game rather than a glorified skills competition. With a 2 point swing available for the OT win- you better damn well win it. I mentioned this in the ramblings a few days back along with Ducklanation. The NHL will tell you until they are blue in the face that it is down to the salary cap but that is only a small piece of the story, the point system is the main cause. As you state above until they change to 3 points for a win more teams will try to avoid losing than winning. Why do we have to award a point to the losing team?? So that the losing fans still go home happy, please. Your team loses suck it up and come back for the win next time.
