and it's because Malkin is Russian. Curse him for taking a job away from some good North American boy (kidding!) - Chris

Malkin vs Stammer

Yea, I traded for Malkin a few years back, right as he went into his injury years... That really left a bitter taste. He screwed me over when he was on the other guy's team, then screwed me over when I acquired him.
Just seemed to play lazy to me when I watch him play. Certainly he's a top talent (bordering on unstoppable!) when he elevates his game, and as a Fleury owner I'm thankful for that (see tonight)!
I guess it's mainly the injuries that frustrate me, and the fact that owning him never panned out. I suppose I just prefer the peace of mind of 80 games with 45+ goals and 95 points over ?? games with the possibility for 110 points, lol - Chris

Why do you hate Malkin? Why do you have to pick one of them? Both are great, great talents. - Jeff Angus

My mistake. It was just off the top of my head, I didn't look at the numbers. Can't believe he's fallen this much, especially after a four-point return from concussion - Dobber

Pens

Best game of the year for the Pens as a team. They finally beat an elite Eastern/Atlantic team which was great.
Fleury was spectacular and gave up his typical soft goal to prevent him from a shutout.

Malkin, as Angus mentioned, is playing like his Conn Smythe/Art Ross year where he can take over a game whenever he wants. His chemistry with Neal and Kunitz is the best i have seen in a line since Crosby/Malkin came along. Great to see.

Most importantly, Kris Letang returned and played a great game! This guy is going to win a few Norris trophies, i guarentee that. He does it all and even in his first came back, didn't shy away from contact and rushing the puck.

Giroux

Won't hit high-90s. No way.
If he paces at 1.22ppg over the Flyers last 37g, he'll hit 95pts.

The bigger problem is that Jagr came back from stuffing himself at Christmas dinners and hasn't done much.

Since Christmas, Jagr's SOG totals: 1/2/1/2/1/0/2/3/2
Uh oh... no more MOVES LIKE JAGR!

Giroux is a filthy-good player... but his production has been heavily tied to Jagr. As a Flyers fan, I can tell you to go back and cycle through all of Jagr & Giroux's goals and you are going to see a lot of each other making direct assists.

If I'm Vegas, I'd peg Giroux's O/U for the season at 89.5pts.
And myself... I always prefer the unders.

I think Giroux's 2nd half will be similar to Stamkos last year.

Stamkos had a blazing 1st half last year.
Then all of a sudden MSL was no longer lining up with him...

2012-2nd half Giroux with an old-Jagr = 2011-2nd half Stamkos without MSL. - Pengwin7

At this rate, I am starting to think it will come down to Malkin vs. Datsyuk. The Sedins will be around 102, and Stamkos will have 57 goals and 100 points, while Giroux is high 90s. But Malkin looks like 108+ points...and Datsyuk, if he doesn't slow down, could be his best competition - Dobber

Rally good set of ramblings today!

I really need to try and watch a few Sens games in the next couple weeks to watch Turris. Everyone is raving about him but I have not seen him really play a full game myself.

I know you mentioned that Minnesota was the best team in the league before Christmas, but only in points. Their 5 on 5 play was in the bottom of the league even during that time and they were getting goaltending that was not sustainable. Throw in some injuries now and they are easily a non-playoff team.

You would think Urbom should get a call... got the call earlier this season.

Gleason from the Canes seems to fit the "Devil's" bill of defensive D-men... Depending on the Habs and what they plan to do, Gill also fits the bill. Maybe even a Greg Zanon or Milan Jurcina... - Ryan Ma
