RE: Stastny

I think you could be surprised... Landeskog plays a very similar style to Stewart, yeah he's a rookie and will have some growing pains, but the talent is there.

Lots of poolies knock Col for the lack of talent, but keep in mind it's a very similar team to last year, where they were ranked 18th in terms of overall offense. Plus they get their calvary back (Mueller, Quincey, Jones...) and more. It was their horrible defense that was hurting them last year.

Also there's a few sleepers that if they have a good camp could really help boost the offense. Stoa and Hishon could have a great camp and Hishon certainly has the ability to become a very solid top-sixer (much like Matt Calvert last season) to really surprise.

Stastny has enough talent to at least tally 60 points, but with the upside of much more. Given where he's currently drafted, he's well worth the gamble. - Ryan Ma

RE: Thornton

HAHA pretty easy to figure it out... Just filter all the players by position, select C, then count 1 to 13 and Thornton should be #13...

"On average, Thornton’s the 13th overall center being selected in Yahoo! leagues, which is a bit low in my opinion"

Where can I find this information? Is that on Yahoo! or somewhere else? - Brian Foster

Sound advice, just in time for some big drafts!

re: Leino - Pengwin, Ma does the West. Leino being on Buffalo means that Tim will have him covered in the Eastern Edge!

As usual, Ma's pieces continue to be chalk full of gold nuggets.

1. Thin LW.
Yes, the one thing every poolie MUST know is how thin this position is. It was even thinner before Yahoo gave Nash LW eligibility and could be even thinner next year if Yahoo gets their head on straight and makes Datsyuk & Zetterberg as C (which they should be). I completely agree that jumping a bit on LWs is a wise, wise strategy. In FOW leagues, nabbing a center listed as a RW has big value: one of Carter/ Backes/ Giroux/ Briere is a must-draft in the 3rd/4th rounds.

2. Goalies.
Finally a point to disagree on... goalies. In 12-team leagues & larger, starting 2G, I would actually advise getting two goalies by end of round 5. My first five rounds are typically 2G, 2W, +1 BAP C/D. Most H2H leagues are heavily weighted by goalie cats and I think two top tier goalies are a must. Especially when there are articles like this that give value if you need a sleeper skater. There just aren't sleeper goalies. Steve Mason at 103 is still on the Page 1 (first 25) goalies. If you miss the boat on a solid goalie... it could ruin your entire draft. Being weak at any skater position after the draft can be fixed. Goalies always have trade value. I've even typically been drafting 3-4G in each mock just to F with other people who are showcase-chatting up their skater-talent on the chat box. :)

3. Sleeper List. Love them. The only one I slightly dislike is Stastny. He was so magical with Stewart. I'm a big fan of linemate chemistry and while Stastny is very, very talented - I have my doubts on whether COL has enough talent on wing to get Stastny his big stats again. I'm not touching him.

SUPER SLEEPER:
Oh Ma... tell me it just slipped your mind to include Ville Leino at Yahoo373!? Hopefully my Cntrl+F "Leino" is just not working properly. And for those in FOW leagues, grabbing a 50-60pt LW who could be lining up at center! Needle in a haystack. Leino is my ultimate sleeper (by Yahoo rank) this year. - Pengwin7

Few guys I was able to steal late (9th, 10th, 12th rounds): JvR, Benn, Berglund.
Wish that draft could have been real... - Marc
