The No.1 reason I am discovering for this issue, gentlemen, is because the customer purchased "manager tools" for 3.99 and then tried to access other tools (i.e. the line combo expanded tools). Solution: just buy the 8.99 full package.

If you run into problems, email me at dobber@dobberhockey.com - Dobber

Hey Dobber,

I scrolled on pretty much all the comments, and can't seem to find this answer:
Will there be a package next year that would include the guides and this part of the website too?
I'd pay an extra for the line combos and everything when buying the guides, but am too lazy to pull out my credit card twice...hehe

By the way, the only reason I think that there has been so much bad comments about this $$$ issue is that pretty much everybody was sure that those line combos and other tools were part of Dobberhockey.com, not frozenpool, anyway I know I did.

Keep the good work tho! and thx for all tips! - Tatawaka

Anyone who wants this free, feels that they should get this for free, and thinks that the copycats out there offer as much as we do (they don't, by the way - you can imitate but you can't duplicate sorry) - please email me and I will gladly give you free subscription. Thanks tommy for the insight and doing what you can to push business away from me! - Dobber

Forgot you guys started charging for this feature, excellent feature too.... out of curiosity is it US or Canadian dollars we're talking here? either way my Aussie dollar is apparently superior to both making this great feature even cheaper at today's rate! ;D - krisco

if you read my post you will see that i presented a solution that is well suited for everyone. i respect 100% getting paid for work and i understand business and customer retention / service fundamentals. i have worked in online marketing and internet monetization for a long time and i feel that there is a time and place for certain initiatives.

to jason / dobber stay competitive and keep your stuff free and make your money through smart and educated monetization of your websites. - lars

Free / Pay / Shut the hell up

For all those whining about having to pay for somebody else's sweat - please, for the love of god, shut the hell up.

Just because it was once free doesn't indenture Dobber or Jason to you for life.

If Jason wants to charge for his work, then so be it. Hell, if Dobber wants to charge for his ramblings (though he said he never will, I'd pay for those too!), then that's his right.

If you don't like it, then go do your own legwork. Maybe start up your own site. Post a link so I don't have to pay Jason and I'll just use your hard work to earn fantasy hockey success! Until you do that (and realize the work these guys put in), then maybe stop complaining, enjoy the free content Dobber already provides and be happy with that.

Sheesh! - lcbtd

Alex, how about this - you pay 25 cents per use.

Will that work?

So if you use it...say three or four times per month then you pay about 83 cents. Sound good? Well...that's what we're charging. Ten bucks - 12 months - 83 cents per month.

Lars - my site is free and always will be.
For the last 1900 days in a row I have provided advice, rankings, columns and forum for free. And for the next 1900 days in a row I will continue to provide those things. For free.

I understand the need to keep things on the Internet for free. I am anti-pay when it comes to content. The dinosaurs who suddenly charge for access to their site will learn pretty quickly that this is not the way.

These same dinosaurs also control the advertising system online - that is to say that, even with 6 million page views in a month, that doesn't give me $2000 per month. To feed my family, I need to make money somehow. And even with that in mind, my site is STILL free. What do I do? I give you, the reader, something in exchange for money. That something is my fantasy guide. Selling my fantasy guide gives me enough to make a living. And as such my site will always be free. To accuse me of charging for my website is offensive Lars. I take offense to that.

Frozen Pool is Jason Arbuthnot's section and for the last three years we have made it known that it would be a pay section. This move has been talked about and in the works for three years - in fact, last summer I announced that for the 2010-11 season, Frozen Pool would go to pay so be prepared...but we were unable to set that up for last year because of hectic life (Jason got married, I had a baby, etc).

In keeping with my "get something tangible for your money" strategy, this is a tangible tool. It is not an opinion or news column that the dinosaurs of the Internet try to charge you for - this is getting something for you money. And now, with this shift, Jason is finally getting something for 10,000+ hours of work, and I don't begrudge him that. Now, we separate the fantasy enthusiasts from the freeloaders - and the enthusiasts are applauding the move. The reason? Because the so-called 'lazy' (their word) guy in their pool was getting quick/easy information and now that 'lazy' guy will no longer get it unless he puts in the effort of paying for it. So the poolies who put in the effort/time/money once again get the edge that they deserve. Jason's section, in terms of ads, was giving him $200/month or two grand a year at best. Come on. Now, under this model, he might hopefully get 15 grand - still not close to what he deserves - readers get incredible value for their 83 cents a month.

boo, these tools have been free for ages why charge now... cant you find another way to monetize your site? what attracted me here in the first place was the tools frozen pool provided not just the articles... are you going to charge to read the articles soon too? what if facebook slapped on a membership fee? oh no wait they will never do that because 99% of their revenue comes from advertising not memberships. - lars

Few times a month*. Freudian slip, maybe?

And I don't even use it for fantasy leagues. I use it for hockey discussion about various players. Also, I'd be curious how the application actually acquires/complies the data. - Alex

As someone who used this feature sometimes but not very often, this is crap. The line combos/production tools were extremely useful but as I only used them a few times a money, paying for it is ridiculous. There needs to be some sort of middle ground. Find a way to work it so that you can use it a certain amount of times per day/week/month but if you want to use it regularly or more extensively you can then have a subscription account. - Alex

Al - If you dumb down this tool enough, then it could be summarized in that way, yes. But this "middle man" saves you hours each day.
Example - you didn't see the Philly-Columbus game last night. So you go to NHL.com and look at their ice time and their shifts. Scrolling down through each player, you see that from 9:10 until 9:57, Daniel Briere was on the ice. Scroll around and look through the players and then you find that Scott Hartnell was on the ice at 9:13 until 9:57. Some more squinting at the page and scrolling and you discover that Jakub Voracek was on the ice at 9:06 until 9:52. There, after all that work, you have just concluded that for one shift the line was Briere-Hartnell-Voracek.

One shift.

But with one click of the Frozen Pool tool, you get all shifts, any game, any player not just their linemates, but their production with different linemates. This information is nowhere else. And that is just ONE tool.

Not worth 83 cents a month? You can't even buy a snack-sized bag of Doritos for that price. I guess if you save your money, then in TWO months you could go out and buy a snack-sized bag of chips...

I don't know if I like what I would be paying for tho. I would basically be paying for someone that is able to get this information from somewhere else and then convert it to a different format on a website. Doesn't seem like I should have to pay the "middle man" for things I could easily do on my own if I only knew where the data came from. - AL
