Goldie, do you think Steve Mason can rebound this year with an improved team? Not sure if Wishnewski is the guy that will have a huge impact, but it couldn't hurt. - Bender

Roloson, Garon, Conklin... As I prepare/brace for another season of Khabibulin goaltending I (and probably Oilers management) wish I had a time machine to go back and keep even a couple of those guys around. And since I had a time machine, while I'm at it I would Gilooly M.A. Bergeron during the Oilers cup run to prevent Roloson from getting run over, assuring victory. I might also tell Pronger to keep it in his pants and/or bring back to my 1990 self a 2011 sports almanac, Marty McFly-style. Actually I would probably do that first, then the Oilers stuff, then go check out the dinosaurs, then kill Hitler, but I think you get my point. - Ron Burgundy

Ryan,

You are better off investing in Jason LaBarbera. McElhinney can step in and play well, but does not have the skills or confidence or experience I think to put together a strong stretch of games.

Tippett has said to the press as recently as last week that LaBarbera will have a chance to claim the "Starters" role. But remember, and as McKenna reinforced in his tweets, "starter" and "backup" are imaginary terms. This is actually a good thing for LaBarbera because I know he has good skills, is a big goalie, and is in Tippett's defensive system. If Smith falthers, LaBarbera will play well enough to keep Phoenix from dipping into their AHL tandem of McElhinney and Justin Pogge. - Justin Goldman

Curtis McElhinney?

Now that Bryz has gone to Philly, Pho is left with Mike Smith who I am not a big fan of, and the alternative is Jason LaBarbera.

So what about Curtis McElhinney? Is he any good, with the possibility of stepping in and impressing?

I suppose any goalie in Pho will have the benefit of a half decent defense in front of them... - Ryan Lenethen

Some interesting predictions.
I remember when Desjardins was in the Habs' system.
The problem with CD is that the Avs' defense looks rather weak,
with quantity but little quality.

I like Garon and Conklin as backups to draft in the latter rounds.
Deslauriers is worth monitoring, thanks to your excellent analysis/research. - PMain
