Line combos? Really?

Just thought I'd point out that any and all line combos for Pitt from last season are completely irrelevant. Pitt was missing Crosby & Malkin for 40 games apiece. Anything you take from their lineup last year is total garbage. - Jeff

Neal

My fault Carcillo. Too hasty research I guess. I was checking regular and postseason and upon double-checking, you are right. I thought he played primarily with Staal. He did play quite a bit with Staal, but mostly with Kovalev and Letestu as you pointed out.

Here are his playoff lines:

37.96V;72 KOVALEV,ALEX - 10 LETESTU,MARK - 18 NEAL,JAMES
21.33V;48 KENNEDY,TYLER - 18 NEAL,JAMES - 11 STAAL,JORDAN
16.83&#xPP;72 KOVALEV,ALEX - 18 NEAL,JAMES - 11 STAAL,JORDAN
3.52V;72 KOVALEV,ALEX - 18 NEAL,JAMES - 11 STAAL,JORDAN
2.15&#xSH;72 KOVALEV,ALEX - 18 NEAL,JAMES - 11 STAAL,JORDAN - Tim Lucarelli

About Neal
As a result, Neal’s primary linemate was Jordan Staal.
Just wanted to point out that Neal's primary linemates were Alexei Kovalev and Mark Letestu. Staal played mostly with Kunitz and Kennedy. - Carcillo

No chance Couturier makes it. Needs to have a big junior year after taking a step back this season (not points-wise). Although he probably would have stepped in on the Sens, Jets, Isles, etc. - Big Ev

doesnt matter about whether couturier has the talent; the flyers as an organization have signed to the 50-contract limit. We CAN'T offer him a contract, no matter how much he wows us. - Tyler Haskell

Couturier

While I don't doubt Couturier has the skill to step in, I highly doubt he'll crack the Flyers roster this season. He might get a 9 game stint, but the opportunity for say Jeff Skinner last year was much greater than the opportunity for Couturier this year. I'm a huge Flyers fan, but I just don't see any possible way Couturier makes the team at all, let alone for a 10th game.

It reminds me of the team in 2007-08...Claude Giroux just about made the team and the Flyers thought he was the best player in camp, in the best shape, just flat out dominating, but they ended up sending him back to juniors. He dominated one more year there, lost a spot in camp to Nodl, but made it back with the team later that year. After one season of progression, he broke out in his third NHL season with 76 points.

If Couturier was on another team, I think he would have a much better shot at playing in the NHL this year. But in the Flyers organization, I have to think he doesn't make the team this year, then splits time in the AHL/NHL next season. If he plays well enough, the team could very well look to trade Daniel Briere right around that time, making their top centers be Giroux, Schenn, Couturier and creating cap space to re-sign Giroux to the raise he'll deserve. The money Giroux is making now ($3.75M per year) is chump change. - Tim Lucarelli

Couturier

while i totally agree that he is one fo the few NHL-ready guys from this year's class, i really cannot see him outplaying Schenn or Talbot for a 3rd line role.

Schenn does not really play a winger's game.

so that would leave Couturier on the 4th line... and really, wouldn't he be better off fine-tuning his dangles and entertaining you in Drummondville another year? - ultrawhiteness

Sean Couturier

Has a Voltigeurs fan (I lived near Drummondville). I highly expect Couturier to crack this line-up and force the Flyers to move Schenn has a winger. He's more NHL ready than anyone can expect. He has the complete package (solid defensively, wise on the ice, good shoot, solid on his skates, good frame ...). Ha has the complete package to become a good third line center and to play on the second PP wave and on the PK.

A third line with Schenn - Couturier - Simmons was highly plausible.

Each year 3 to 5 youngsters crack the NHL immediately after the draft and Couturier was one of my top 5. People have high expectations for him last year, maybe expectations was too high. So lot of people don’t see him high enough this year. Sadly as a fan, I’m not.

Dustin Jeffrey

Despite the two-way contract (which I read was dictated by the CBA), Dustin Jeffrey would have to clear waivers to be sent down. As high as the team is on him (Dan Bylsma likes him a lot), I can't see the Pens taking that kind of a risk. Someone would grab him. - netwolf

Typo above...sorry folks. The last paragraph should have started as such:

Brett Connolly is listed as a checker in this article, but that is mostly because I expect him to spend the year in the WHL. - Tim Lucarelli
