The Sharks had such a great run on goalies due mostly to the mentoring of warren strelow.

from wikipedia Warren coached, Martin Brodeur, Miikka Kiprusoff, Evgeni Nabokov, Vesa Toskala, Johan Hedberg, and Nolan Schaefer. - paul

Then there's Ray Shero's strategy of completing ignoring Europe all together. Sigh.

Interesting article. - Kraftster

When I said strange I was specifically referring to their strategy of drafting numerous goalies solely in the mid rounds not at their drafting as a whole. I was going for trends here not for an overll condemnation of San Jose. - Stuart McDonald

"San Jose's strategy since the 2000 draft has been abundantly clear and abundantly strange."

A team that drafts a few goalies makes it's draft strategy abundantly clear and abundantly strange? I can't even begin to rationalise that thought. The biggest link you can take from the Sharks drafting strategy, if any, of late, is that Wilson is prepared to (A) trade its higher picks for roster players and (B) will trade around in the later rounds to get guys his team likes.

This article seeks to condemn the Sharks selections, but Setoguchi (until recently), Couture, Clowe, Pavelski, Murray, Demers are all guys that have been quite successful for the Sharks. I'm not sure what the intended knock is? Far, far too oversimplified. - WooWooWoo
