and scream at my computer whenever Im on the tsn site. ;D Im not a fan of the Tanguay deal either (and on tsn- that is blasphemy!) Hes a decent enough player- but for a team with cap troubles- why paint yourself into the corner AGAIN! and for so long- He will be 32 later this year-a 5yr deal is tooo long. I too pointed out the fact the Nucks drafted half of another set of swedish twins- you would think I questioned somones manhood!
*end rant- Thanks Dobber!

As for Fraser being bought out- It doesnt make much sense- they 'save' about $550k- but then you have to replace him- and thats approx. the minimum salary. I would think hes got some value on the 4th line. Interesting to note- the Oil gave up a 6th and 7th round picks- and got a 1yr rental of Fraser, plus a 1yr rental of Smyth (albeit a pricey one)- not a bad return. - Larry

LA was fine with just the 7th, but the Oil wanted to move some salary, so in went Fraser (instead of Brule for the health reasons). LA may just buy out Fraser (as per @darrendreger and @helenenothelen). - Darcy S

The only think I don't agree with is that they need to start chaning it a bit as the Wings appear to be in transition. They have not produced a star since Zetterberg and with his injuries and Datsyuk's injuries + the average age of the team, I think they need to start giving more ice time to guys like Tatar and Jarnkrok. Playing in the NHL will let them become stars. Plugging away in Sweden and the AHL will not. Just my opinion. They are obviously doing well but their window might be closing after Lidstrom retires. - Big Ev

don't agree with the most succesful model in hockey??

You mean the model that just about every team in the league that doesn't finish in the lottery aspires to? really?

Based on Kronwall's development - this season is his first real shot at top pairing minutes - Kindl will likely get top 4-6 minutes this year, and be the #3 D next season. It was 8 years from the time Kronwall was drafted to his first 40+ point season. That season for Kindl would be 2012-13.

Forwards Datsyuk and Zetterberg didn't crack PPG status until 6 and 7 years removed from their draft year. By that logic, they've only got 3 drafts worth of players ready for NHL duty. Who? Those players would be Franzen, Howard, Filpulla, Hudler. I'd expect Abdelkader or Helm to take a big step this year, as well as Kindl based on their model. - slufoot

and I don't agree with their model (or parts of their model). They need to start promoting guys to the show sooner rather than later, or else they may lose a chance to really develop their skills. You can't spend 5 years in the AHL developing skills. - Big Ev

I'm well aware of Datsyuk and Zetterberg. That was quit a while ago, though. I'm talking last 10 years or so.

It's just cliche that whoever Detroit picks, people say it's a steal. See Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen (a guy who was passed on 3 times by DET and everyone else), Tatar, and now Jurco. I'm sure Kindl was talked about like that as well. - Big Ev

similar to the Oil picking just one of the Jones twins last year, why waste two picks when you can use only one and for all intents and purposes get both of them anyway? - ultrawhiteness

The guy to really watch in Detroit is Jarnkrok. More upside than Mursak, Tatar, Nyqvist, etc. etc. - Jeff Angus

If I were to guess who would argue with me on the Detroit point, I would slap $100 down on Big_Ev! LOL
As slufoot says - wait six or seven years for each. At worst, they make solid third-liners: Filppulla, Helm, Mursak (on the team this year)...really pick out one or two latish picks every year and they tend to develop as expected or hoped. - Dobber

Detroit picks - stars

Well Zetterberg and Datsyuk have worked out quite well. More recently Jim Howard and if we're talking stars in the spring (when it matters), Johan Franzen has some of the best playoff PPG numbers of all active players.
We can't really dump on any picks they've made after 2005 since they develop their players for 6-7 yrs before they get an opportunity to be succesful at the NHL level. - slufoot

I knew people were gonna say Jurco will be star just because he's in Detroit now...who's the last draft pick they had who is now a star?

The Detroit factor is a myth, IMO. - Big Ev
