If (when?) Backes gets the C, I'd expect he's the more likely of the 2 to tone it down. - PD

Great article, nicely reasoned (including the follow-up comment). Thanks, I'll be looking for more.

As a Chris Stewart owner, I was happy to see the trade. I agree that the Blues are transitioning to better things (faster than the Avalanche), and I single out an Angus favourite (Oshie) to catalyze Stewart's production. (There are plenty of other candidates too.)

I expect to see his physical edge (PIMs) decrease a little, if only because the team will let him know they need him on the ice, not nursing a broken hand. But I still expect him to be a consistent second tier contributor on my roto team for years to come.

Kudos. Nice writing. - Steffen

Great article, i am in my first year of fantasy hockey and have added Chris Stewart and am expecting big things from him. Hoping the trade to st.louis gives him a little more help offensively.
Pengwin7 i think you are a little off on his offensive pace, he hit 64 in his first full year and was on a tear before the injury this year. I think he will be in the 65-70 range next year and am hoping he becomes a ppg player in the coming years - chris etherington

Stastny

Yes, most of Stewart's points in Colorado were accumulated while skating on a line with Stastny, but I think you'll find that as long as he's skating in a top 6 role, he's going to put up points no matter who he's skating with. Of course, the better the talent around him, the better he plays, but that's true of any player.

In the OHL, his breakout year happened while playing with Emmerton (DET prospect). The next season Emmerton fell down the depth charts a little, but Stewart still put up good points.

In STL, he'll have the opportunity to play with any of McDonald, Backes, Berglund, Oshie, Steen,or Perron for guys who've already cracked the top six for STL and then you have players who've shown sporadically that they have the ability to play in the top 6 or hope to make it there soon in Porter, Hensick, Sobotka, McRae, Hjalmarsson, and Sonne. Essentially, despite the solid list of players on the team now, they have a nice wave of up and coming talent as well.

You can argue that Stewart doesn't have Stastny to feed him the rock all day, but I could come back and say that he doesn't have to worry about if Stastny or Duchene get injured at the same time. If that happened in Colorado, their team would fall apart even worse than it already has. STL has much more depth to take some of the weight off of one line's shoulders. - Tim Lucarelli

Another very well written player summary, except that nowhere in this article did I find one name... Paul Stastny.

Chris Stewart was a perfect compliment to Stastny, and often a power forward needs that super-skilled passer to bring out his full value. So we know that Stewart put up good number is Colorado - and he has done well in St.Louis... but will it continue?!

I'd peg Stewart at 60-65pts. With an upside of 70-72pts. Everything else written here is bang-on, great value!!! Another gem Dub! - Pengwin7
