Love this topic!

Neuvirth has 30 AHL playoff wins and a .926 SV% in the last two post-seasons. The Capitals HAVE to give him a shot and need to get him warm soon. If they ride Holtby and he starts stumbling with two or three games left in the regular season... well, it might be too late to get Neuvirth back in the groove.

They should be giving Neuvirth 6 of the last 9 games.
If he isn't winning, play Holtby for the last 3 to get him ready for playoffs.

Please read this as supplemental insight to today's piece. It was posted just after this article went live:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capitals-insider/post/on-hockey-its-time-for-the-capitals-to-commit-to-michal-neuvirth/2011/03/14/AB1GWZV_blog.html

I agree with Tarik here. Neuvirth needs to get back into the net as soon as possible. It's great to ride the hot hand in Holtby, but only if he is legitimately being considered as a playoff option.

There's only 12 games left. It doesn't make sense to give Varlamov any games. All three goalies are rested. Ride one into the playoffs and roll with them. The more I look at this situation, the more I feel right when I say Varly is simply the odd man out. Unfortunately, the volume of injuries is crushing his trade value. If the Caps can't get what they want for him, it might be better to just keep him and hope he gets over the injury issues. But I still like the Neuvirth + Holtby tandem way more than anything with Varly. - Justin Goldman
