Salary Cap

Russ....great thoughtful article. On the subject of Salary Cap, I am in favor of the process....it forces the good teams to develop talent as they can't buy everything they might need. A thoughtful article might be to look at the sellers at the trade deadline this year for salary or free agency and see if they added talent developed or bought....Did they improve statistically or not....Might need to go two or three years to get a good read.... - mike hess

Salary Cap Rocks

Great read, Russ. I thoroughly enjoyed it! I must say, I DO like the salary cap. A little balance in the league is great, and although there are a lot of disadvantages, it prevents big market teams from "buying the Cup". Sure, small markets still can't reach the ceiling and bring in the top notch talent, but that doesn't mean that with the right coaching and team play, they can't be competitors (see Nashville and Phoenix).
We started a salary cap league a few years back, and I must say, it is the best league I've ever been in. No more 3-5 year rebuilds. People lose interest if they're constantly getting skunked by one or two powerhouse teams One guy went from last to second place in 1 season with some savvy trades and clever drafting! Personally (and I suspect many will disagree), I think it is the future of hockey pools, as every GM has the chance to compete year in and year out. That's what makes hockey pools exciting, and people coming back year after year: the notion of outsmarting their opponents, guessing right, and taking all the bragging rights for themselves! - Chris

I equate parity with the word par

Interestingly.. A Par player on the PGA Tour will have earned nearly $225K in winnings for the first two months of the season, placing them in the top 50 on the money list. Not too shabby for average ;)

Just yankin' ya.. Great article, as usual. - Ed Murdoch

"So can the Devils still make the playoffs? Let's see, they would need to make up nine points and leap frog four teams with only 19 games remaining. Nah, no way,"

I think the R in Russ is for reason. This is a big part of why Russ is my favourite writer on DobberHockey (and they are all good ones!).

Terrific summary of Eastern teams. Bang on, every one.

I even had to take out my dictionary to check that spelling of Capitol, sniffing any excuse to criticize Russ... ah, Pengwin can't find a flaw with this piece. Purrfect. Great job. A++ - Pengwin7
