Good acquisition for 3rd line

I like the Arnott acquisition for the Caps, however, not as a top two line option. As a veteran with character, a warrior (former captain & cup winner) knows what it takes to be a champion and assets the leadership of the club, I can see that. Arnott has not been scoring at a high impact level for some time. I suppose he could flourish for a short window of time, and with higher level teammates. He didn't find a chemistry with Kovy, not that he necessarily spent much time in that position. Assuming he will find an instant chemistry with Semin, well that's not my kool-ade. That he can center a shut down line, and chip in at 20 goal/40 point pace for the duration, well I can sing that song. I'm a little more puzzled with the Wideman acquisition. Depth yes, some value yes, but defensively somewhat suspect, and offensively a tad repetitive. He has another season with a cap hit of almost $4.0M. That could bite them in the butt. Marco Sturm, too, leaves one blinking a bit. All three should be HUNGRY though. It's a great opportunity for these veterans, and a rare Cup opportunity. - Jocular Hockey Manager

This is not the move the Caps needed to make. Neither is getting Wideman. This team has been sleepwalking through the season and needed to do something bold in order to rejoin the ranks of the elite. As it is they've seemed to have lost their identity trying to play a more defensive style that won't get them any further into the playoffs. What they needed to do is to go out and get a top-notch goalie like Vokoun and then play THEIR game. - Isle B.

With the acquisitions of Wideman and Arnott, how the hell is Washington not over the cap? - Stu Neft

I'm guessing Fehr's lost his shot at playing on the top-two lines with his injury and all these acquisitions? - kjazz

So you think Arnott will be a PPG player for the rest of the season now? - Ryan

He was already sent down on Sunday - I believe. This made me think that 100% that WSH was going for a 2nd line centre. - Ed
