Have held Colborne 2 years on my farm, waiting for the day he dons the Bruins silks. Instead, he goes to the hated Leaves, where careers (and/or fantasy value) go to die. I don't even have any Leaves fans in my pool to pawn him off on.

I guess on the bright side he should now see the bigs sooner than he would have in Boston. Cheer the player not the team I suppose. - Ron Burgundy

Phaneuf?

What does this do for Phaneuf? My sense is that it may be good, as he can be "the guy" on the back end, similar to how he was relied on for his first few years in Calgary. - Chadosaur

Jon Dey..

The conditional 2nd round pick will also be triggered if the Bruins advance to the Stanley Cup Finals, even if Kaberle opts not to resign---according to Bob McKenzie's twitter post - Anthony L

BOS PP - I think that Recchi gets moved to the 2nd since he is on the point where Kabby would go with Chara.

Good return for Kabby. Didn't think TOR would be getting there own pick back. Too much drama around it. Besides the prize was received last year in Seguin.

A key note after this deal is that TOR now will have over 19M in MAX CAP space for acquisitions. They can take on Salary and picks easy for the remainder of the year.

I fear that they could start to slip now as Kabby has been instrumental offensively in the recent success. There is no downside for either team in the deal. I heard on the radio that the conditional pick is based on Kabby re-signing with the Bruins. Higher the pick based on the term he signs for.

Hopefully for Buds fans he signs for 4-5yrs and they get another 1st out of the deal. Though methinks Chirelli would not let more than a 2nd go in any case like this.
Interesting to see.

Wonder if Burke can pawn of Komisarek to VAN since they are crying for D, and take an injured one back. Ballard? Doubt it. But it is an interesting thought, and there are better deals out there for VAN I think.

I don't think it is fair to say Burke is "correcting mistakes". I think that he wanted certain value in return for certain players and the market wasn't there yet. A year makes a difference especially for prospects. They either shine more or lose their shine and can be dealt. Teams are also more desperate. No you don't acquire a STAR in this manner, but you get better longterm depth. Burke is getting almost exactly what he asked for in the summer. A roster palyer, a 1st round pick, and a prospect. Colborne may get a cup of coffee later this year, he gets his first round pick (albeit not a great one), and he gets a supplementary pick in place of the prospect (or roster player if Colborne doesn't step up). Pretty much what he wanted. Not as high of quality right away, but close. The CAP SPACE allows him to chose any player he wants now. They just have to agree to come here. - Jon Dey

Accumulation of draft picks

All of these picks slowly adding up makes one wonder if Burke will instead be looking to convert them into bait used for a bigger core asset in the immediate future. (Brad Richards sign & trade perhaps?!, hehe). Albeit probably someone lesser, but nonetheless of core potential. In any event, his options are opening up big time!

EOTD, I'm highly doubtful, B squared will sit pat with the long, long term approach and simply use all of the draft picks, given his denial that his improve quickly with a young core philosophy hasn't changed---despite the versteeg trade.

Anyhow, the last link to active Leafs who have played at Maple leaf gardens in their tenure has finally been bid adieu. - Anthony L

Why do you think this hurts Kessel? I was thinking he finally gets the skilled, cerebral pivot he needed to play with. After all, in terms of offensive skill and hockey sense Colborne is a vast improvement over Bozak. - fzusher

Burke slowly correcting his mistakes. Build through the draft. Not a big fan of Colborne but a good risk. The real value here is the 1st round. If either BOS or PHI get knocked out early, maybe he can move up in the draft. - DuklaNation

thankful Wheeler wasnt a part of this.
Coborne will look great in Blue and White, and Burke's shown he likes to move up in the draft. Now he has some pieces he can use to finally do it in Toronto.

Great trade for both teams. Boston's powerplay a week ago against the Leafs looked like they had only 4 men out there. Immediately moves them from a middle power player, to a top 10. - duducks
