I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'm looking for that "pick'em" app you posted a few months back. I just switched browsers and can't find it for the life of me. It really made everything so much easier. HELP would be greatly appreciated. - Eric

Fair point, studley. My comparison is related to their ability to jump right into the NHL. I agree that Skinner was more of an underdog because he was pegged as a top 10 draft pick at best. (Not by me, though!) - Jeff Angus

Great article, Angus. These keep getting better and better.

I have to disagree with Landeskog being "the next Skinner" though, depending how you look at it. Can Landeskog immediately step in next year and produce like Skinner has? A lot of hockey minds are saying it's a likely possibility. Are the two youngsters in similar situations during their draft year? No, not at all.

Landeskog was a favourite for the first round a long time ago and boosted himself into top 10 contention before the season even started. If anything, he's taken more of a Seguin-esque climb into consideration as a top-3/5 pick due to his stellar play for Kitchener.

Skinner, however, went into his draft year as a top-60/90 pick, but ended up playing his way into the first round by mid-season. By the draft, he'd essentially cemented himself as a top-10 pick and eventually got taken with the #7 overall pick.

Ultimately, it's not a huge difference when all is said and done, and I like both of these stories as they each have their own "underdog" vibe to them (Skinner's rise to the top; Landeskog making the jump to the OHL at a young age and will end up being the highest-ever drafted Swede out of the OHL). - studley49

If Oilers turn the corner next year, I wouldn't worry a ton about Hall. Back to back Memorial MVP knows a bit about winning... There is cause for concern, but maybe Hall and Nudgent-Hopkins can be Kane and Toews. Eberle can be Hossa.

Ok this comment reeks of homerism lol - frozenpools

Although you never really hear his name another Boston Prospect that everyone will know in the next few years is Max Sauve. He got injured this year but he puts the puck in the net - plain and simple. He was close to making the Bruins last season and with a strong finish to this AHL campaign you may very well see him in a Boston jersey this fall. - Kevin

Points 6 and 9

Point 6
1 year after Phaneuf made the move to Toronto and i already hear a lot of fans wanting him gone! I love it! Everyone thought the Leafs robbed Calgary blind but it's turning out that the big piece in the deal was Keith Aulie. Phaneuf is awful and as an anti-Leaf fan, i eat all the bad press up. Blow Leafs blow!

Point 9
Well that seems like a bit of a waste Angus, how about FILATOV instead of Voracek because the Jackets would be VERY foolish to trade him in my opinion. So how about some insight into whether or not Filatov gets moved for a puck moving defenseman?

Great job as usual. - Maximus

Vokoun

I disagree that Vokoun re-signs with the Panthers.
1. FLA has seen enough of Scott Clemmensen ($1.5m next year) in net to know they can be competitive without Vokoun next year.
2. Vokoun has been to the playoffs just TWICE in his 10 year career - 1st round exits with NAS both times. He has earned his money. Every NHL player wants a ring.
3. Though many teams don't have cap room this year, some may be opening up cap space next year. If Lidstrom retires, DET has $6.2m to spend. You can bet WAS will be looking for an experienced G if they fail to get past the 1st round. Those Knuble & Hannan contracts will clear enough space. COL has lots of cap space and is one goalie away from being a top 5 team in the West. SJ's goaltending has struggled this year.

And I don't need to tell you the trivia answer to this question:
Name the only NHL goaltender that has posted a SV% of .919 or higher for 5 straight seasons?

Nobody wants to play for a loser until they are 40 - unless you are my favourite player of all-time... Keith Tkachuk! - Pengwin7
