I pegged him for about 50-55 with 20-25 goal scoring ability. With Setoguchi in the toilet for years, and Heatley's early struggles, to go with Big Joe's pass-first mentality, the goals gotta come from somewhere.

Anyways, I didn't read that it is meant for a one year league. In a keeper, get him keep him. In most one years, he is not worth owning. I have him in one, and that is only because other options haven't really proven themselves any better in the last week. It was tester league for auction draft which I missed, nuff said, but he has done good for me, and I wouldn't give up on him so quick. - Jon Dey

RE: Couture

Yeah pretty much what Greg said...

I wouldn't be actively going out to grab him and if I were a owner I'd attempt to sell high on him.

Yes the 17 mins and 3 on the PP looks great, but if you look at the recent trends 1 point and 12 SOG in the last 4 games the numbers are starting to adjust themselves...

At the end of the day not everyone can be a point-per-game player... If you look back at my column in the off-season about end of year scoring numbers, the best case scenario for a 5th/6th leading scorer on the team is around 55 points (assuming the Sharks top 4 goes, JT, Marleau, Heatley, Pav) with Clowe in the mix too. On average a 5th/6th scorer is around 35-41, so I've already given a boost of 15-20 points to Couture already. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because it's the Sharks...

Also another factor for me is the C-only factor. Couture honestly deserves winger eligibility, at C only and no FW, that's another major factor to consider. According to NHL.com, there are 50 C that garner more ice-time than his 17:33, the SOG is pretty good as there's only 8 above him in that category, but there's another 50 C's that garner more PP ice-time than him... so I mean he's not exactly anything "special" to have to go out and acquire. In a 12-owner league, assuming that each team carriers 3 C's each, at 50 he's kinda borderline own at the moment. If he gains dual eligibility then that could be golden, but at just C only, there are a few better options out there.

Also as mentioned before the Seto factor is always there... if he was injured and out for the season, therefore being out of the equation completely then you could argue Couture is a lock for the top-6, but with him looming all the time there's always that factor. - Ryan Ma

i was asking about logan a couple weeks ago. i ended up not trading for him.

i think the 'sell' indicates a suggestion to sell high, not just sell. in other words, if you can acquire a 60-65 point player for couture, that would be a good move. otherwise, we wouldn't be selling high. just selling.

another great read, ryan, thank you.

in calgary, backlund has 'earned' the right to stay at center, according to sutter, while ollie moves to the wing. what ever that means...perhaps backlund moves from ww to watch. somebody must step up and center iginla/tanguay. somehow someone woke up kipper and jerome at the same time. with bourque also heating up, the flames could go on a bit of a run.

i agree the colorado scene bears a close watch with the stewart injury. i'll mention porter one more time. i think he too is worth an upgrade from ww to watch. he played a bit with stastny earlier on the lw.

with modano's injury, does hudler finally become fantasy relevant?

cullen is a very interesting case. in leagues counting ppp, i think he is a buy, if the price is low. he is being tried on the wing on a line with havlat, and he is still leading the wild in pp1 minutes. he has gone on these point streaks before, and is three years removed from achieving 49 points in 59 games, and that without the generous pp time. i see him somewhere in the 55-65 range, depending on health.

kesler is playing great hockey the last couple weeks. burrows return is effecting him very positively. especially in leagues with several peripheral stats ( ppp, shp, hits, blocks, fw ) he is still a stud. and his +/- should be very good. if i didn't own him, i'd be trying to get him. i'd be willing to pay a 70-75 point player. - gregory churchill

I don't agree with the sell idea at all.

Stepan just had a few weeks of hick-ups and so have all the EDM boys, worse than Couture, but there have been no calls to sell them. Really dumb move to sell him, IMO, since he is scoring. A few game blip should be expected of a rookie.

Patience will pay-off here. If you are in my league and looking to sell Couture, I will buy. I would suggest anyone else with the opp. (Depending on league format of course) does the same.

Really, a sell on Couture? 17 min, and 3 on the pp seems like good ice-time to be productive. Wouldn't it be a safe bet to include him in the Sharks top 6 since Setoguchi has been injured and crapping the bed? - Seppuku
