Youngblood: Thanks for the kudos. While I am largely self-taught, it's all about asking people in the business the right questions, and I've learned a lot about how to do things (and how NOT to act) from a number of scouts and executives- both in the NHL and in the CHL.

I get my information by watching a much as I can- WHL, Tier II and even Midget/Bantam hockey in person, and whatever games or clips I can get online.

This past summer, I picked up a gig scouting the WHL's Eastern Conference for McKeen's. Again, networking and being where the right people are got me the job- I literally ran into a McKeen's scout in LA as I was leaving the Staples Center and we got to talking.

I don't know a lot about SMWW and I personally don't know anyone who has taken it. That's not to say it's useless, and I've certainly heard good things about it. - Matt Bugg

Matt, I was wondering what your background and/or credentials were in hockey/hockey scouting. I am always impressed how thorough your analysis are with the prospects. Do you have formal scouting training? How do you get your information? Are you a credited scout? I ask because I have considered taking some courses at Sports Management World Wide (SMWW) in addition to teaching. Cheers, Youngblood - Rossi
