RE: EJ

Definitely too early to tell, but that thought had crossed my mind and I thought I'd chuck it out there to see if others agree or disagree... - Ryan Ma

Nice read.

I like the Jay Bouwmeester comment. That's my exact concern. However, I think its still way too early to say that we are seeing signs of it. Jay Bouwmeester is still Jay Bouwmeester even if he's getting 6:00 PP time/game. If EJ was getting the powerplay time that Alex Steen is, I have to believe that JBo would not be someone we think of when looking at EJ. Until he gets the opportunity and mirrors Jbo's production, then I am holding off on that. The flashes of offensive ability I've seen from EJ are already more than Jbo has displayed, in my opinion. - Kraftster

RE: Kipper

I think it depends if you think the Flames are legit or not... I'm not a huge fan of Howard (competition with Osgood/sophomore slump) but he hasn't shown anything to prove me wrong yet...

I'm an Oiler fan so I can't really be objective about the Flames... They are 6-3, but I think they lack that breakout superstar guy (I know they have Iggy, but he ain't Ovechkin/Crosby/Kane/Kopitar anymore) to get them over the hump.

Kipper should be fine for the season, he's got a pretty decent D corp in front of him.

He's a bit more "safe" than Howard in my opinion. - Ryan Ma

I stand corrected... either way new record! Congrats Liles, now let's see if he can keep up this ridiculous pace. - Ryan Ma

1 year pts only league. Goalie stats = get 2pts win plus 3 bonus pts for shutout.
I have Howard and Halak. Would I be better off to move one for Kiprusoff ?

Ryan, I love your thoroughness each and every week, but your Liles/Kuba note is full of fact errors and omissions. The record they share is 8 games (not 10), it's for defensemen only, and it's for games from the start of a season. - John Hillburg

RE: Filatov

YES! is the short answer... The problem is pretty much exactly what I said in the off-season. They have Huse, Nash, Vermette, Umberger, Brassard, and Voracek, those guys all have more NHL experience and knows how to play the NHL game. So I don't see the Jackets just going out there to give Filatov time, when he hasn't done anything to earn it. In this day and age, just because you're a highly touted prospect doesn't mean things are handed to you on a silver platter (Kyle Turris). Do I see an increase to more than 5:50, yes I do, but it'll only slowly creep up to maybe 12-13 a game (still not enough to be of any value in 1 year leagues).

I'd take:
Comeau (27%)
MacArthur(43%)
Brunette (18%)
Kunitz (43%)
Tanguay (24%)
Sullivan (41%)

Over Filatov easily

IMO he shoulda stayed with CLB/AHL to learn the NHL game last season, work on the defensive side of things then he coulda stepped up big time this year, instead he was a big cry baby about things, fled to KHL to continue to play an offensive game and ignore the defensive side of things and now he's back to square one.

Same could be said of Zherdev, offensive guy, couldn't play D in the NHL, teams realized that, don't offer him a contract/cut him, he bolts to KHL... plays just like how he normally does without learning to play D, comes back with the attitude (yeah, yeah, I worked on my D last year, I'm NHL ready now), comes back and things are status quo, team shafts him again...

RE: Dukla

Definitely sound advice... the problem with rookies is that it's all based on hype. And generally speaking since everyone hypes up rookies to sell their game, merchandise, advertising, etc. that hype just gets overblown when it comes down to fantasy value.

It's still pretty early in the season, but Hall's 70+ point projection isn't looking too good for Dobber right about now... but then again he had more balls than me to make such a bold statement... - Ryan Ma

Filatov droppable?

So in a 1 year, 12 team league with G, A, PPP, PIM, +/- and SOG's on offense Filatov is droppable right? - DonCoburleone
