Thanks for sharing that insight. That's a telling comment from Boucher, for sure, who is a stern taskmaster. - Ryan Van Horne

I could see myself moving that upside higher if he continues to impress. Also, I wouldn't want to jinx him by saying he has Semin type upside. To me, that implies a highly-skilled player who misses about 10-15 games a year but produces at a good clip when he's in the lineup. - Ryan Van Horne

During the summertime, the only news to follow was what was going on during training camps and I found myself at the lightning website one day and caught an interview with Boucher, their coach. During the practice earlier that day, he had put Connolly on a line with Stamkos and St. Louis, and he said that he didn't look out of place at all. He said, in his own words, that he wasn't giving him a candy just because he was that year's first rounder, but to see what he could do. He said that it would be difficult for most players to even keep up with the two speedsters, but said that Connolly's hockey smarts allowed him to play with them even though he wasn't as fast up the ice. He made sure to tell the interviewers that he believed that he's going to be a Player once he reaches the NHL...coming from a coach who holds everyone on his teams accountable (you can ask Gagne, one of the best two-way players in the game today (Boucher's own words again) and his 14 minutes of ice-time last game) speaks volumes of how he views this up and coming star. - Casey Jones

A guy like that has Semin type upside, I'd say 85-90 pts in the right situation. - DuklaNation

Connolly's upside is a moving target for me right now. In the Prospects Report, Matt Bugg pegged it at 30-30-60. I thought that was a little now, but understood the caution given his injury.

If he remains completely healthy and gets valuable playing and development time, I would push his upside higher. As it is, 40 goals and 35 assists for a right-winger is pretty darn good. - Ryan Van Horne
