Trivia Answer

Thanks to all those who left their replies. Here is the answer:
Jagr (5x)
Crosby (4x)
Ovechkin (4x)
Sakic (3x)
Selanne (3x)
Thornton (3x)

The other five who hit 100 points twice from 1995-96 onwards:

M.Lemieux, Malkin, P.Kariya, Heatley and Forsberg.

That's a pretty exclusive list! - Russ

boooh, your criteria for a sniper may be a little high or is it "what have you done for me lately"? Vanek has never had an NHL season with less than 25 goals (25, 43, 36, 40 and 28 last year). When a two time 40 goal scorer (or three time 35 goal scorer?) can't be called a sniper, then the bar is indeed set high!

Don't sell little Gerbe short (pun intended), the player he's most compared with is Brian Gionta and that's more than just a size comparison...both players played their college hockey at Boston College. In Gionta's best year he scored 62 points; where Gerbe managed to score 68 points. Gionta hit for 89 points in his fourth NHL season. Just sayin'. - Russ

Trick Question?

Nope. Not a trick.

I was right as were all others with Selanne.
The year he was traded he got a combined total which most stat sheets don't compile, but list two separate entries for each team.

Can't confirm cheating or not, but "dekem" was the first to get it right. Or at least knew the elusive 6th man. - Jon Dey

Without looking

I would say OVI, Crosby, Thornton, Sakic, and Jagr are the easy ones.
Selanne, Kariya, Lemieux, Forsberg, Hull, Francis, Recchi and Yzerman are all thoughts, but probably pre-94-95 half-season.

Sixth choice would be...I can't think of it. And am now going to check. - Jon Dey

Crosby, Ovechkin, Thornton, Sakic, Lemieux, and Jagr

Selanne did it 3 times but the first one was before the lock out
Malkin and Forsberg only has 2 season with over 100 pts.

I like Scott's revised listed with Thornton in instead of Kariya. I know Thornton had a 100 pt season in Boston, then another one the year he got traded and another the year after his trade. Until he was mentioned I didn't think of him though.

Not sure about Selanne though... he probably is the safer choice between he, Lemieux and Forsberg though - myron

I know bure did 100 points at least a few times before the '94 lockout... I think he came close after that, but I'm not sure if he ever hit the mark again. He, Gretzky, Yzerman, Oates, and Messier were all beastly leading up to the '94 lockout, but tapered off significantly after it... so they're not on the list =/

Nazzy did it at least once in the heyday of that Nazzy-Morrison-Big Bert line in vancouver. I think lindros hit 100 1x... but never stayed healthy enough to hit it again. Pretty sure that Forsberg got it 2x, but same as lindros... couldn't stay healthy. Kariya and Heatley have only hit 100 twice each i think (and both have come pretty close to hitting it more times than that - kariya if i remember had a 98 or 99 point season the one year).

As scott says, Lemieux sat out for 3 years (because of his battle with cancer) after getting something like 300 points in 2 seasons following the '94 lockout. otherwise, he'd definitely have hit it.

My list is gonna have to be:
- Ovechkin
- Crosby
- Sakic
- Jagr
- Selanne (tricky, because i think he bounced around teams during this time... and he got a few 100 point seasons split between teams if I recall).
- Thornton (same with selanne... had a huge year split between boston and sj) - lanky522

SO Jagr,Crosby and Ovechkin seem to the easy ones.

I'm a sakic fan so i know Joe did it 3 times if you include 95-96.

That's 4 and need two more. Thornton,Selanne Kariya have been mentioned but I'm not sure Russ would have made this question if it didnt involve a sleeper were not thinking of.

Really tough but I'll go with Ovechkin,Crosby,Jagr,Sakic,Forsberg and Lemieux. - Claudio

Tougher than it seems if there were only 6.

Obvious guys are Ovechkin, Crosby, Jagr

Can't be Gretzky, he was with the Rangers and I know he didn't put up 100 (close one year). Lemieux and Forsberg came close. Hard to think Lemieux isn't on the list but he didn't play full seasons.

Sakic had a bunch of 100 pt seasons but did they come after the lockout? Same with Selanne. Since I can't think of anyone else, I'll go with them. For the last one, Kariya?

So...OV, Crosby, Jagr, Sakic, Selanne & Kariya - Scott
