Justin as the only expert I trust when it comes to goalies:)...What should I make of Backstrom giving up 5 goals in 40 min of game...yes it was a preseason game, but I suspect him already and then I read this...? How do you judge what is happening on the goalie front? thanks Mike - mike hess

Heh ... I guess my own pointed criticism deserves an apology to you as well Justin... I should have read your bio first ...
#

Justin Goldman writes the School of Block column every week, giving you the fantasy spin on goaltenders. He is a founder of thehockeyguild.com - all things hockey in Colorado, as well as thegoalieguild.com, a fantastic site on all things between the pipes, including rankings, critiques and more.
Nonetheless ... I have a soft spot for Kirk McLean --- and I believe he will be a great addition to your local organization. - Dean

:'( Wow duducks you hand out the compliments very easily.

The truth is that Kirk McLean has never occupied the position at a pro level of a goal tending coach. I think based on what Justin Goldman has seen during his lengthy one practice observations ...my apologies if you have repeatedly watched Kirk at work? It just seems like the guy cannot be judged on a single event much less a single point of view. Are you a goal tending coach? A goaltender? I apologize if you are - you would obviously have more intuition that a casual fan of 30 years... oh ... I am a former player and a goalie at that. Mind you it was only beer league.

But keep things in perspective - and don't submarine unless you have a more in depth analysis that your single eavesdropping event ... did you speak to Kirk McLean?

I apologize if you did ... I have - he is a very fine community orientated individual who played superb goal for well over a decade... him being a part of the local community presented an excellent opportunity to see what he does beyond his on - ice job.

I guess every person is entitled to their point of view ... just make sure you present a well rounded and researched opinion before you take swipes indirectly at a man's reputation. - Dean
