You can also subscribe to "tweets" with an RSS reader such as Google Reader. I have a hockey tab in Google Reader with all of the NHL Insiders. Thanks for the NHL Tweetmix, it's been bookmarked.

In terms of making you a better poolie, it really depends on the pool and the participants. If it's cut-throat, then yeah, anyone who gets a step on the competition will benefit - whether it's injury alerts, player signings or starting goalie info.

With iPhones and Blackberrys, you can now make split second decisions with regard to your team and make online changes form anywhere.

I'll definitely have my Blackberry "tweeting" at me during my drafts this season as Euro signings and training camp injuries can have a serious effect on draft success. - Jeremy Wark

Agree with Tony ... NHL Tweetmix is very useful to get updates. Get updated and new articles links from a variety of websites so you don't have to navigate to all those different websites and search for new articles. (Although I still do it anyway) - AL

why not just use a twitter aggregator like Dobber? No need to waste my time following individual twitter feeds. that's like saying i have to watch every single sports channel to stay informed. - Repent Tokyo

I highly recommend NHL Tweetmix @ NHL.com. It is the first thing I open on my computer each day. Practically every who's who in hockey media is included in the mix. A great way to get breaking news. And it automatically updates itself at every new tweet.

Great article Brent. Thanks - Tony

Sentium - that was 200 million as of June. It was my typo, I edited that part ironically because he had 70,000 (but that number was for daily registrations) - Dobber

200,000 Twitter users? Try 75 million as of January this year :) 10-15 million of them are considered active tweeters.

I think Twitter helps a lot because a lot of the time you need to have the information faster than the other poolies and Twitter helps you in that way so you can snag that FA before anyone else can. Following the beat writers of different teams is VERY helpful. - sentium
