better long term keeper

so Justin who would you rather have as a long term keeper in a league that counts 2 points for a win and one point for shutouts and overtime losses. i own pavelec right now but am wondering if neuvirth might be the better to have in the long run as he will be competing with varlamov for the starter's job in washington. i know that pavelec has a bright future (that's why i drafted him last year) but being on atlanta they aren't going to win nearly as many games as wash in the forseeable future. and if neuvirth can somehow take the starter's job away from varlamov due to better play or a varlamov injury (as he has been injury prone in the past couple years)then he has a good chance to get a lot more starts and probably wins. what would you do? - Todd Dmitruk

Raycroft actually signed a two-year deal, and the second year is one-way. - Jeff Angus

The reason Raycroft isn't on the list is because he's only in Dallas for one year, two-way deal for insurance reasons. He's not the future, Krahn and Bachman are. So Raycroft will certainly benefit from a Lehtonen injury, but it will be Krahn that will get the solid look. He's really well-liked by the organization and if Krahn plays well, they will choose to start him over Raycroft as much as they possibly can.

I probably should have made mention of that when I mentioned the other goalies not listed due to injuries (JDD, DiPi and Elliott). Good eye!!

Also ... the reason you don't see Gustavsson and Ellis on this list is because I already consider them the "starters" for their respective teams. - Justin Goldman

great article. great insight as usual.

i have 1 question though. with raycroft signed in dallas, wouldnt that hurt krahn's chance of stealing the starters job?? - sheldon
