I really like what Johnson did last season when he got the opportunity. However, for the same reasons I'm not as sold as most on Jeffrey making the jump, I think it'll be one more year until these guys crack the lineup for good (when 3rd line spots open up).

Not only are there two holes at forward, but one is a prominent spot on a 2nd line. If Staal ends up back at 3rd line center again, you're looking at two big holes on scoring line.

In the past, the Pens have rolled the dice with guys like Dupuis, Fedotenko, etc on those lines and I think this year they look to the outside for help. They'll hand out a couple of tryouts and two-way offers in early September to high-risk, high-upside guys like Marek Svatos, Patrick O'Sullivan, and see who clicks. They need legitimate scorers on the wings, but with no money to solve that problem, I don't see any other solutions.

However I could be totally wrong haha. Just opening up some debate. - Mike Colligan

Kevin Villous = Keven Veilleux

What will keep Johnson on this team, if he makes it, is his spunk and defensive ability. He's becoming a rock solid bottom sixer and at one point or another, he might get a shot with the big two, although I think that's pretty unlikely. - sentium
