Thanks for the props Justin - always appreciate your opinion, especially where the art of goaltending is discussed!

Great point dino. I understand that the three "finalist" were the top three vote getters, but consciously used the word ballot, not thinking of how it would sound. I do think that Rask will likely end up fourth and shouldn't be any lower than fifth in the balloting.

I'm sure the voters had a hard time deciding their order, there were some very good candidates this year.

Thanks for your well worded post - much appreciated!

Just for the record, the announcement of Duchene, Myers and Howard are as the finalists (as you stated in the lead). This is not a "ballot" that has been created for voting that will NOW take place. The voting has already happened, and the winner has already been decided. Duchene, Myers and Howard are simply the three highest vote getters. So, technically, Rask has not been excluded from anything... he just didn't get enough votes to be announced as one of the three finalists.

I'm not arguing for or against Rask. I think a good argument could be made that he was one of the three most valuable rookies this season (you made a good argument, actually). Just clearing up a common misconception that the announced three finalists for an award actually comprise the final ballot for voting. That is not the case.

Once the award-winner is announced and the final voting is made public, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rask finishing fourth or fifth, closely behind the top three. - dino

Russ,

GREAT stuff dude!!! I really enjoyed reading this. You are right - Rask got hosed here. I think even if you had to judge the trophy on sheer talent alone, not how they performed, Rask should be trumping Howard. It doesn't take a genius to see what kind of elite skills Rask has, and how Howard is more of a "poor man's" goalie who excels due to mental toughness and a team that is strong around him on a consistent basis.

Rask was #1 on my rankings forever ... until he graduated ... Howard floated around all over the place. Yes, Howard had a great year and totally shocked and surprised all pundits, but he is still not considered an "elite" goalie like Rask is considered.

Great job with the history of Barrasso as well. Wasn't he like the only goalie of his era to come straight out of high school to play in the NHL?? Amazing. - Justin Goldman
