Budde,

When predicting Subban's upside vis-a-vis Mike Green, there are two big differences to consider: 1) Subban will play with Montreal on a power-play with the likes of Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta and and Tomas Plekanec (maybe) while Green plays with Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Semin. 2) Bruce Boudreau lets Mike Green play his game but it remains to be seen if Subban can fit in Martin's system or if Martin will let Subban play his game. There is uncertainty here.

Given a situation like Green's, could Subban beat the upside of 55 points? I suppose so, but I don't think he'll ever be a point-per-game defenceman in the NHL. - Ryan Van Horne

I was fortunate enough to grow up with Belleville as the closest "hockey market" so I loved every opportunity to see the Bulls play. I saw Subban play as a rookie and he stood out to me in all of the few games I saw, all of which were full of players 18+. In the stands you could tell that the 16-year old was going to be special because of his world-class puck-carrying skills in combination with his offensive instincts (no matter how "risky").

I'm going to go out on a limb to say that Subban is going to be right up there with Green for young offensive defencemen. Think of him as a flashier version of Green which just doesn't happen to play on a powerplay with Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Semin. The sky's the limit and, based on his desire to win and aptitude in doing so, don't be surprised if he reaches that point. - studley49

So would you say 55-60 pt upside or Green-like 80 pt? - Budde

3rd in rookie scoring just behind Tyler Ennis & Logan Couture and 2nd best plusminus in the entire AHL with +43.

I think he has really rounded out his game and people no longer have to doubt his defensive play. - tmlpowerplay

Ryan - Thanks for another thoughtful article - updating the profiles of these prospects is very useful for a guy like me - weak in staying on top of what is coming down the pipe. I wish you were writing for us more fequently. - Shoeless
