What about Kovalchuk to Oilers? They have to dump some salary, because otherwise they will be in trouble soon. They could package Penner, O'Sullivan and Grebeshkov for Kovalchuk and that would make sense for them. Of course it would be better if someone took Horcoff, but probably no one will ;). - Lukasz

Kovi goes to ottawa for Spezza straight up!...Kovi goes to the canes for Brind'amour, Whitney, Walker and kaberle, Atlanta wins its first cup!...Montreal Trades Gomez and Halak for Kovi, but they play him on the fourth line because he dosnt speak french!...Oilers trade Horcoff,Pisani, Souray, Visnovski, o'Sullivan for Kovi then miss the playoffs and lose him to free agency! - Chris

I'm impressed you just made Kovalchuk to the Blackhawks sound like the smartest idea ever. I didn't think it could ever happen and after reading this I can't help but think that it would be crazy for Chicago NOT to do this! (especially if they keep Sharp) Great article - Elliott Landry

You wouldn't think that Atlanta would want Colborne from Boston? I'd think that would definitely be part of any package Atlanta would be interested in. - lanky522

Finally, I have been tossing the same LAK to ATL opinion for two weeks.
LAK are just bursting with young affordable talent, and have just the right amount of tangeable assets that are being hurt - fantasy wise - by numbers games and underproduction.

My thoughts were Jack Johnson+Frolov(maybe +prospect) for Kovalchuk and a conditional 1st.

In this ATL swaps comparable dollar amounts, and saves face (and potentially their franchise) by bringing in two name players with the pedigree of being 1st round picks.

LAK gets another dominant force to be a huge breakout in the second half and really go deep in the playoffs with the security of ATLs 1st pick if he doesn't resign with LAK.

To me, out of all the teams in the league, this fit is the best for both franchises.

Although, FIT has rarely if ever been a correct predictor of "Deadline Day". - Jon Dey
