RE: Brassard

The thing with Brassard that's going against him is his youth and experience at the big league level. Hitch just doesn't trust young kids with any roles of responsibility. You could argue well why's Voracek getting the gig but not Brassard, the fact of the matter is that the system that CLB plays requires the center to be more of a two-way defensively sound player while the wings can poach a bit. Which is why you see Nash and Voracek with higher point totals than their centers.

I'm not saying Brassard doesn't have talent, but if you look at the players surrounding him it's not like they are in dire needs to be forced to play him, very much like the Filatov situation (Chimera, Huselius, Voracek, Nash even Torres ahead of him) and similarly to the Flyers situation with Giroux not getting the time because RIchards and Carter are in front of him. THe Jackets have a very good pairing of Umberger and Vermette which acts as a roadblock to Brasard and honestly its not like they're struggling at the moment either.

My guess is that he gets shafted all season long. Save yourself some trouble and pick up a guy like Stoll, O'Reilly, Plekanec, or Peverly who is getting plenty of opportunity on their respective clubs. - Ryan Ma

RE: Brown

Great catch on Brown, I knew that too, I think what I meant to write was top PP unit. Thanks for picking that up Krafster - Ryan Ma

Great read, I look forward to this every week!

What's your opinion on Brassard? Do you see him hitting 60 points or struggling along on different lines for most of the season? - Knucklez

Great article, as always. Just one note, Brown is not really playing with Kopitar at even strength. Simmonds has been playing with Kopitar and Smyth since Williams went down. I just want to note this so that people don't attribute Brown's strong play to getting dealt a spot with Kopitar at even strength. Brown started the year with Stoll and Purcell, then recently has seen some time with Handzus and Frolov. (Brown does play forward on the top PP even when Williams is in the lineup). - Kraftster
