bogans: Mainly because NJ just always finds a way. Every time I think they should have a bit of a down year, they find themselves competing for their division title again. Their last generation of scorers (Elias/Gomez/Gionta) have been effectively supplanted by Parise and Zajac's emergence last season, and the return of Lemaire to their head coaching position should mean that things are relatively easy for Marty again. Last time Lemaire was there, NJ basically had a win locked up if they scored first, unless my memory's failing me. Henrik may be Henrik, but he doesn't have a Lemaire system in front of him. That's why I think NJ's a lock again, at least. - Guy Incognito

I have got to question what makes New Jersey such a lock to make the playoffs this season? Yes, Marty is Marty, but by that token, Henrik is Henrik as well, and Cam Ward is proving himself to be elite as well. I just don't see what they have above a top tier goaltender that would guarantee them a playoff spot? Especially with Elias injured to start the season, I know us Rangers fans say it every season, but isn't it possible the Devils bubble bursts this season? Either way, it is not as though the Devils have been running away with anything lately. - bogans
