I won my pool in 07-08 by making many of these decisions. But last year was a different story going from first to worst.

I had the first overall pick in a snake draft. I took Crosby. It was overwhelming. I was jacked. My decision making quickly declined thereafter. I made quick rash decisions on the high of getting Crosby. I should have taking some sedatives because all my planning went down the tubes.

Relaxing, going with your gut and making smart decisions is how pools are won. - Jamie

Draft Night

Love the article, the best part of draft night is watching the other guys throw names of players they don't want out there in a way that looks like they did not want you to hear them. Then some guy that has not prepared anything shouts out "I'll take Peter Forsberg as my next pick" looking all smug as if he just stole someones pick....while inside the other 20 guys are killing themselves laughing within themselves. Yes it really does help to read and prepare and relax, because everything you have read will come back to you just when you need it. Have a blast everyone as you draft this year, and GOOD LUCK!! Thanks again for the article!! Loved it!! - Irvin Penner

I know the joke's getting a little old by now... but wouldn't a picture of Kyle Wellwood be better for an article about going with your gut? - Alex McDonald
