I had Couture in the guide at 20% odds to make the team. All it takes is a strong camp. With this news, I will be bumping him to 25% or 30%. If that's too much of a jump, then that can be a part of the guide where we disagree. His odds do improve. - Dobber

Dobber, Michalek has played LW for most of his time in the NHL but he's a natural RW from I recall back when he was drafted. I can say with certainty that he HAS played RW on Marleau's line before back when Patty was the #1C. He can most definitely play LW, who he could play either.

I do see Cheechoo getting the top line shot simply due to his history with solid playmakers, and the fact that 50 goal seasons don't come from nothing. He can score goals, and they'll want to see if they can make the most out of their investments. Michalek is a sure thing, and if Cheech works out(which tbh all depends on whether his sports hernia flares up again), Milan is a great 2nd liner. If not, he can be moved to the first line. Problem solved.

Also, I don't see Couture getting much, if any benefit from this trade. He would have to play a wing to stand a chance at getting a spot, because all four C spots are locked up(Thornton, Pavelski, Mitchell, Nichol). No way Couture outplays Mitchell, and no way does San Jose bench Nichol, who's the only legit 4th line C they have(no way mitchell plays that line at the start of the season, and honestly he shouldn't be relegated there to make room for couture). Couture COULD make the squad if he shifted to RW but he'd have some heavy competition.

McGinn gets a spot on the 3rd line now, I'm wager. Or at least gets better than a 50% shot at it. With the loss of Michalek, they need someone to step in and provide the defensive responsibility Michalek did, and Couture is not that player, and there really aren't very many on SJ. - Lockedge

Michalek and Cheechoo are different wings. They can both get on the first line. And what is the "first line" anyway? Is it Spezza's? Alfredsson's? Kovalev's? As such, is this worth disagreeing? If Michalek plays with Spezza and Cheechoo plays with Kovalev; while Alfredsson plays on yet another line...then who would be right? You? Me?

And Regin has no shot on a scoring line. I had a soft spot for Shannon, but that is gone now after two years of failure. I am just telling you my observations of his last 30 games and the fact that his NHL coach was his AHL coach. Just using logic. But also I have the early inside scoop on Notch's conversation with Bryan Murray - with that in mind, I wrote the analysis above about Shannon. You'll see when it's up. Nothing, nothing, to do with any soft spot.

Also - centers and how wingers being moved won't impact them.... Antropov was a center (winger now). Shannon was a center (winger now). Little was a center (winger now). These are names off the top of my head, but I could go on and on and on. Young centers are always moved to the wing. The Sharks are lacking in skilled forwards and the odds of Couture making the team just increased. They didn't flatline, they didn't decrease - they increased.

I disagree with some of your analysis, Dobber. Michalek is actually being paid more money, is younger and has higher hype now, so he'll get the top line audition. Cheechoo needed a change of scenery, and I think he is a better player than he's shown in recent years. I think he'll work out for them on the 2nd line with Kovalev and a good, creative center. I agree Fisher ain't it, though, but I am sceptical about Shannon. I see your soft spot towards small skilled guys talking here. He'll get an audition, but so will Regin. I agree with Lanky on the D (see my analysis in the forum).

As for San Jose, I don't see how this affects Couture at all. McGinn definitely, but Couture is a C and competes in a different pool - against Pavelski and Mitchell. Given that he wasn't exactly as dominating as you'd expect a relatively high top-rounder to be by this point in major junior, I don't see them rushing him but letting him develop more slowly. At least one year in the A, until he dominates there. - fzusher

Dobber, how many points do you think Mihalek and Cheechoo will now get playing with the Sens?

Both of these guys are on the waiver wire in my league and I'm wondering if I should drop Booth,Lupul,Giroux,or Kunitz for either one of them. - Big_Ev

One of the biggest problems i thought the sens had the past number of years was the lack of secondary scoring. While it's almost often a bad idea to give up a superstar for more depth, i really think the sens offense is better as a whole this year.

Defenses will have more to worry about than just one line. I actually like the move for the sens considering heatley basically forced their hand. One of the better results of a "forced trade" that i can think of recently. - lanky

The chemistry in the dressing room of the Sens got improved. This might have a fantasy impact. - Fergie

I can't speak for Oiler fans, but I'm pretty much numb to the team looking like a joke now. So whatever I guess. - doulos
